  2. DTL DATA & ELIXIR-NL: UPDATE & OUTLOOK Rob Hoo& & Barend Mons www.dtls.nl

  3. DATA STEWARDSHIP SUPPORT TAKING SHAPE n Stewardship is more than data management n Taking the life science perspective on data management n Connecting local & international efforts n Promoting FAIR & linked data: data stewardship for discovery n Collaborate n in SURF LCRDM n in NFU data4LS n in ELIXIR & RDA n with funders (e.g. ZonMw) n with partners, universities, industry § e.g. webinar Rob Hooft in Elseviers Publishing Campus: how to create a good data management plan (June 23)

  7. ENABLING TECHNOLOGY HOTELS UPDATE & OUTLOOK Merlijn van Rijswijk and Alain van Gool www.dtls.nl

  8. DTL INFRASTRUCTURE STRATEGY n Scientific Advisory Committee of DTL concluded that DTL programs for Data, Technology and Learning are inter-dependent and require an integrated approach n Mapping of DTL facilities with ESFRIs (in particular ELIXIR, EATRIS, BBMRI, EU-OPENSCREEN, MIRRI, INSTRUCT and EURO-BIOIMAGING) n Transparency on quality for users of DTL facilities and funding organizations n Standardisation of DTL Technology facilities, in particular with regards to implementation of FAIR data stewardship. We will organize BYODs with technology communities, pilot proteomics n Creating a network of linked DTL facilities as a stepping stone towards more integrated infrastructures, e.g. Health-RI

  9. TECHNOLOGIES HOTELS PROGRAMME OUTLOOK 3 rd round successfully completed, € 790.000 was awarded. 54 grant applications n received, 28 projects (52%) funded. DTL involved in evaluating the data section. ZonMw and DTL jointly evaluate first three calls n In NWO/ZonMw proposition 2016/2017 € 1.9 million available for continuation ETH n programme, due to broad topsector support (LSH, Agri&Food and Horticulture) There is a strong wish to open the ETH programme for public-public / “Excellent n Science” projects, besides public-private projects. Intended as stepping stone for broader implementation hotel concept in ZonMw/NWO programmes. Idea is to have ONE call in 2016/2017 with 0,95 M € for PPS and 0,95 € for “Excellent Science” projects. Call likely opens end 2016 Amendments in discussion with ZonMw for this call DTL wants to make private “service providers” eligible for executing ETH projects, n next to (public) technology hotels DTL wants to improve “booster” projects for SMEs, by changing requirement of n 1/3 “in cash” contribution to “in kind”

  10. DTL LEARNING UPDATE & OUTLOOK Celia van Gelder & Jaap Heringa www.dtls.nl

  11. DTL Learning/ELIXIR-NL Training: Bundling forces to face (inter)national training challenges Celia van Gelder Programme Manager DTL Learning/ELIXIR-NL Training Co-lead ELIXIR Training Platform Education Manager BioSB research school Jaap Heringa Sci. Lead DTL (Learning) (Dep.)HoN ELIXIR-NL Chair BioSB June 10 , 2016 DTL PAC Meeting

  12. DTL LEARNING: Bundling forces to face (inter)national training challenges ■ Combine the education expertise of the DTL community: establish and mobilize network of training expertise and capacity across the DTL community ■ Together establish a comprehensive, internationally acclaimed and sustainable training portfolio with focus on novel technologies and on LS data integration and stewardship Majority of trainings is delivered by the DTL community (in kind ■ contribution) Main role of DTL Learning is showcasing, initiating, facilitating, ■ connecting and coordinating Comprehensive DTL Course Portal ■ ■ DTL Learning & ELIXIR-NL Training go hand in hand in area of data and compute ■

  13. DTL LEARNING: ACTIVITIES ■ FAIR data training portfolio: Define competences needed and build courses related to Data Management & Stewardship, FAIR principles, BYODs DTL partners (a.o. LUMC, Elsevier) & ELIXIR ) ■ DTL-BioSB tandem offers broad portfolio of bioinformatics and systems biology courses with BioSB research community = DTL partners ■ Software Carpentry/Data Carpentry with NLeSC, Surfsara, VU, UMCU, ELIXIR (WUR, TU/e, UMCG also interested) ■ Galaxy Training Working Group with DTL Data, VU, NKI, ErasmusMC, LUMC, TraIT, BBMRI & ELIXIR ■ Metabolomics courses with DTL Technologies, NMC & ELIXIR ■ Infrastructure access for NL with Surfsara, NLeSC & ELIXIR ■ Big data module for HBO with DAS ■ Technologies Course with DTL Technologies MGC

  14. DTL PARTNERS AND DTL LEARNING ■ Keep updated & informed: ■ learning-interest@dtls.lists.nl - List of the DTL Learning IG ■ Many partners have a contact person on this list. But not all yet. ■ In 2014 first overview of Training needs/gaps was performed by this group. ■ DTL Course Overview, http://www.dtls.nl/courses Structured and searchable overview of upcoming courses, trainings ■ and workshops Courses also visible on respective DTL partner pages! ■ Courses automatically transferred to ELIXIR training portal TeSS. ■ Active role of DTL Partners needed, make your courses visible! ■ ■ Most important: allocating people, time and energy to shape DTL’s training programme together Training as a uniter - setting up joint training ■ DTL promotes and assists in setting up working groups (DTL WGs) for ■ specific training needs. Active role of DTL Partners needed
