Recently there has been significant interest in compiling word dictionaries

  • f various medieval languages:

Middle English Dictionary the TLFi project (Old French) Dictionary of Medieval Latin from British Sources Dictionary of Medieval Latin from Celtic Sources Anglo-Norman Dictionary Dictionary of the Scots Language Dictionnaire Étymologique de l’Ancien Français These dictionaries, however, do not include personal names, in their citations, except incidentally (cf., e.g., personal names where the bynames are used as attestations of ME words in the MED).

Technical

Right now, the Dictionary data is stored in individual XML files in a git

  • repository. We are working on building an eXist-db app, for querying and

browsing via a web interface, into which the XML files will be imported. The Dictionary will be online at http://www.dmnes.org (not yet available).
