  3. Key Findings Production - Raw material-Current goat population is 11000, out of which ● Attapadi black is 2500 approx. No proper identification system and data management. ● Crude sales point (temporary ‘store’ for saleable goats). ● No organised Marketing system. No product diversification. ● No working capital. Some minor HR issues. ● Goat rearing is not a livelihood activity for tribes. But it’s like an investment with ● ‘high liquidity’ for them. Breed is getting diluted as they mix all breeds of goat together. ● Almost all the families rear goats with herd size ranging from 5-40 numbers. ● Attapadi black population is around 25% of total goat population. ● Main source of income is MNREGS and agricultural activities ● Milk is not collected ●

  4. Proposed Solutions Increase production an intensive breeding programme shall be commenced. ● 2 or 3 Artificial insemination centres for att. black (with support from KLDB)shall be opened. ● Maintaining a parent population with best of the best and culling the worst of the worst ● continuously at field level. A survey to identify all the attappadi black goats. ● Proper shed for 150-200 goats ● Explore market all over Kerala. ● One goat-shed each with 50 goat capacity at each tribal village.(192 villages) ● Free insurance to all the attapadi black goats with convergence with AHD. ● Branding and marketing of goat-dung with convergence with Kannur Goat Producer Company ● (Ajashree) Goat milk and goat-dung collection system at tribal villages. ●
