Support: Deletion of control requiring notification to 3km

  • Methods of release: “bait station

design must be appropriate to target pest, while excluding non- target species…examples that meet these requirements are DOC 200 bait stations…and stoat tunnels”

Support: Deletion of control requiring notification to 3km

  • Public health permission and DOC

permission required before PAPP can be used

  • Planned notifications are assessed
  • Additional pre-operational

notifications can be imposed as conditions

SLIDE 6

6

Oppose: Proposed control for stoat-specific bait station

  • New control is not needed as

existing control requires cats to be excluded

  • DOC evaluates the proposed bait

station design in the permission process

7

Oppose: Proposed control for stoat-specific bait station

  • DOC opposes the prescription of a

specific design

– Some sites have few non-targets and no domestic cats – Future design changes would require reassessment – No non-target or efficacy data for new design

Propose: Amend ‘Method of release’ control

Method of release: Bait stations only. The bait station design must be appropriate to the target pest, while excluding non-target species and minimising access by unauthorised

  • persons. When targeting stoats,

examples that meet these requirements are DOC 200 trap boxes or tracking

  • tunnels. When targeting feral cats, the

wooden submarine bait station is an example that meets these requirements.

Propose: Amend ‘Notification of

  • perations’ control
  • Use the same notification control as

applies to micro-encapsulated zinc phosphide paste and bait containing sodium nitrite

  • Includes Medical Officer of Health,

veterinarians, adjacent land

  • ccupiers and owners, and in some

cases police

Comments on E&R Report

  • Propose new control overlaps with

the existing method of release control

  • Users will not access an appendix

to the decision for guidance on designs
