Motivation
In IPv6 access network, we may have multi-level DHCP deployment, e.g. terminal – CPE / CPE – aggregation device. CPE in user network will work as:
A DHCPv6 client for aggregation device (e.g. prefix delegation)
A DHCPv6 server for home terminals (e.g. DNS configuration)
We need a method to automatically configure the DNS domain suffix, e.g. for CPEs.

DNS domain suffix option
DNS domain suffix option provides a method to transfer domain suffix from DHCPv6 server to DHCPv6 client. Used for both stateless DHCP server and stateful DHCPv6 server.

Operation & Usage
Operation
DHCPv6 client sends a SOLICIT /REQUEST /INFORMATION
REQUEST message to DHCPv6 server
DHCPv6 server sends REPLY message with DNS domain
suffix option to DHCPv6 client.
Usage
In stateful DHCPv6, the option will be placed in the options
field of IA_PD option in an outgoing DHCPv6 message.
