  2. DEAS FIN FINANCIAL AID ANCIAL AID - Scholarships - Loans The purpose of the UTAR Scholarship/Loan is to provide financial assistance to deserving and needy students of the University.

  3. DEAS Criteria for Selection (Scholarship / Loan) :  Must be a Malaysian citizen  Family and personal income and commitments  Scholastic ability and academic performance  Character and involvement in extra-curricular activities  Has obtained admission to Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman  Pursuing FULL TIME of Foundation / Degree Programmes

DEAS Similarity of Scholarship and Loan :  Student to apply by submitting a complete application form with certified copy of supporting document to DEAS (Except UTAR Top Achiever Scholarship – Non MBBS programme)  Shortlisted applicant will have to undergo interview session (Except UTAR Top Achiever Scholarship for non MBBS programme)  Sign the agreement / award letter  Maintain academic result requirement (Result review)

DEAS Top Achiever Scholarship (for MBBS Programme) Financial Need Eligibility  Documented evidence of the applicant’s family income must  Malaysian citizen be provided  Registered student of UTAR MBBS programme  The combined annual income of the applicant/applicant’s spouse/applicant’s parents should not exceed RM50,000.00. Extra Curricular Achievements The applicant should present documented evidence (awards and other certificates) of co-curriculum activities, leadership qualities, commitment to voluntary work and achievements in the fine arts or other forms of creativity. Interview Applicants will be interviewed by UTAR Scholarships and Loans Committee. Decision of the Committee is final. Nature of Scholarship The Scholarship would give 15% tuition fee waiver for the MBBS programme. Number of Scholarships Maximum of three scholarships are to be offered each year

DEAS Student Loan vs Bridging Loan : Student Loan Bridging Loan Not eligible for PTPTN holder Long term loan Short term loan and one off. - Annual amount is up to maximum of RM15,000 Only open for long trimester application. Open for long & short trimester application. Repayment shall commence six (6) months from the Repayment shall commence in the next following last day of final examination. trimester : - One lump sum payment (PTPTN holder) - Monthly instalment amount (non PTPTN holder)

DEAS Guarantor(s) Criteria :  Age 21-55 years old  Parents can be guarantor  Working in Malaysia  Basic and Net salary with minimum of RM2,000.00  Not a guarantor to any other UTAR student  Able to provide relevant supporting document (as listed below) Employed Self Employed Certified true copy of NRIC. Certified true copy of NRIC. Certified true copy of the latest 3 months’ salary Income Tax B-form slip. - Summary - Details - Tax payment receipt Employment Letter

DEAS Process Flow of Loan / Bridging Loan Stage 1 : Application Form submission  DEAS to screen through  create summary  Faculty dean to evaluate / recommend  Scholarship and Loan Committee Meeting  Interview applicant  Decision Stage 2 : Fund approval DEAS to issue loan agreement  remind student on the necessary document to be submitted  1 week to hand in agreement & documents : If document complete If document NOT complete Guarantor Review : Student to re-submit necessary document. DEAS to circulate all document for Committee members for approval purposes. Fund to be released to cover student bill amount once guarantor(s) review is approved. (without penalty) Note : DEAS will brief student on the necessary document to prepare & process of loan upon the submission.

  18. DEAS Consequences if student unable to secure qualify guarantor(s) 1. Loan fund will NOT be approved. 2. Changes of status. 3. Not eligible to sit for final examination. 4. Have to think of a way to make student bill payment (+ reinstatement + weekly penalty)

  19. DEAS Q & A : 1. How do I know if I am eligible for scholarship? For new student, UTAR Top Achiever Scholarship (except MBBS) will be processed by DACE upon their programme application (with actual result). For UTAR foundation graduan, the eligibility of scholarship will be determined by DACE with student’s CGPA. A scholarship award letter will be attached with offer letter. As for other scholarship, student will have to apply and undergo interview session. Decision of the application will be informed by DEAS. 2. I was not a scholarship recipient, but I received dean list / president list in the examination. Can I get scholarship with the dean / president list ? Unfortunately, no. 3. My scholarship was ceased as I failed to fulfill the result requirement. But my CGPA now has improved. Can I regain the scholarship? No.

  20. DEAS Q & A : 4. I have a good result and need financial aid to support my study. What financial aid the University has? (situation depends on the availability of external scholarship / loan on that time) 5. I wish to apply for loan / bridging loan, but I do not have friend or relative to be my guarantor? Is there any other ways ? Loan and bridging loan required 1-2 guarantor(s). Should you unable to secure guarantor, the fund will not be approved. All process of financial aid will have to strictly follow the University’s policy. 6. What if I am unable to pay the amount as stated in the repayment schedule ? Student must always update the university if he / she face difficulty to pay back the loan payment. DFN and DEAS will advise accordingly. Loan holder is encourage to hand in an appeal letter on his / her wish to reduce / defer the repayment amount / schedule.

  21. DEAS Q & A : 7. How long the loan process will take ? After the interview session, DEAS will issue the agreement to successful applicant within 3 working days. The process of fund approval will depends on the : - documents submitted - decision of the Committee on the guarantor(s) review Another 3-5 working days is required for DEAS to issue memo to DFN, update student status and extend student payment due date.. 8. How I know if my loan fund is being approved ? Student bill payment date has been extended & status of student being updated. 9. Why I need to submit the same document on guarantor(s) every Trimester ? (Student Loan Holder) - A new agreement with latest student bill amount will be issued to loan holder. - Re- submission of guarantors supporting document is necessary for DEAS to check on guarantors’ latest financial background.

  22. DEAS Q & A : 10. How many trimester will the loan cover along my study in the University? a. GPA & CGPA reaches 2.0000 : loan application will automatically eligible for the next Trimester. b. GPA & CGPA does not reaches 2.0000. - An interview session will be scheduled - The Scholarship and Loan Committee will decide after interviewed the student - Re- submission of guarantors supporting document is necessary for DEAS to check on guarantors’ financial background.

GEN GENERAL ERAL REQU REQUIREMENT IREMENTS  Malaysian citizen  Pursuing full-time first degree programme in UTAR  Student MUST meet UTAR minimum entry requirement for all the programmes approved by Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and Department of Private Education / Jabatan Pendidikan Swasta (“JPS”), Ministry of Education(MOE) / Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia(KPM).  No other financial assistance (except bank loans)  At the time of application, student must not be pursuing the last year of his/her programme.  Student who obtained his/her PTPTN loan previously in other institution but failed to complete his/her study is ONLY eligible to apply for the second time upon payment of all outstanding debts to PTPTN  1% administrative cost per annum will be charged starting from the date of repayment

  26. SUSPENSION OF LOAN  Loan will be suspended / forfeited based on the following reasons:  Fail to obtain a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0000  Deferment of study  Suspension of study  Fail to continue study at UTAR
