A project of STU Sustainability and RAVEN Research
Presented by Hannah Moore
The production, transportation, storage and burning of fossil fuels is the primary cause of the climate crisis. The science requires that we immediately end the development of new fossil fuel infrastructure and keep existing fossil fuel resources in the ground.
Climate Change
We require action now. We needed action years ago, but governments have failed us in the past. It is up to us to seek change through direct action.

THE CLIMATE CRISIS
WHAT IS FOSSIL FUEL DIVESTMENT?
Institutions across the world including universities, churches and municipalities are acting on climate change by selling all investments, stocks or bonds in the fosisl fuel industry. END FOSSIL FUEL SPONSORSHIP, INVESTMENTS THAT ARE UNETHICAL OR UNSUSTAINABLE DECREASE FINANCIAL AND SOCIAL POWER OF FOSSIL FUEL INDUSTRY REINVEST IN SUSTAINABLE SECTORS, SUPPORT A JUST TRANSITION TO RENEWABLE ENERGY 1184 INSTITUTIONS WORLDWIDE DIVESTING A TOTAL $14.09 TRILLION FROM FOSSIL FUELS
WHY DIVEST STU?
Fossil fuels are not a responsible long-term investment.
Institutions of higher learning have an obligation to be leaders in climate action.
Contradictory to teach environmental studies, human rights, etc., while funding and profiting from fossil fuels. An ethical issue that calls on the social responsibility of the University.
$1 MILLION
The orange square signals support for fossil fuel divestment at STU. STU's fiscal decisions impact everyone involved in the University – that's why any STU student, staff, faculty and alumni can support the campaign by signing the petition.
Wet'suwet'en land defenders are currently fighting against the Coastal GasLink pipeline, which is proposed to run through their traditional, unceded territory. The Coastal GasLink project is owned by TransCanada Energy – a company that STU funds and profits from every year. To stand in solidarity with land defenders and Indigenous communities across the country, STU must divest its endowment from TransCanada Energy and all
land rights and reconciliation, as well as environmental and social justice. JOIN THE RALLY ON CAMPUS NEXT THURSDAY, FEB. 27TH FROM 12-1PM IN THE UPPER COURTYARD.
