- The Diversity Committee consisted of 17 members
during the 2018-19 school year.
- The group continues to discuss the recruitment and
retention of minority staff members, as well as, creating an environment where all staff and students are safe and comfortable and can be themselves at school.

Challenges in Hiring Diverse Staff
1. Decline in students studying education and post secondary planning to go into education 2. Attacks by media and politicians 3. Economics – salaries compared to other fields 4. Promoting the importance of diversity in hiring decisions 5. The Test of Basic Skills is no longer required

- We continue to spread our message about
Equity and Inclusion to colleges and universities across the state and to discuss hosting prospective teachers for observation hours and student teaching.
- This past year we hosted 39 university
students for observation and student teaching experiences.

perceptions of candidates that we have showed you in the past, I created a Job Fair video interview.

Getting Message Out
The NWPA (Northwest Personnel Administrators) conducted our Diversity in Education Virtual Networking Fair that was shared with universities around the country – 120 candidates submitted video resumes.

Hiring Results for the 2019-20 Year
This past year in our certified hiring process, we: a) screened 28 minority video interviews. b) interviewed 25 minority candidates in-person. c) hired 8 minority teachers.
