  2. NP School District’s Mission Statement The Norwood Public School District is dedicated to educational excellence. In partnership with the family, staff and community, our mission is to meet the educational needs of each child by providing the programs and environment necessary to: Enable every child to reach full potential; promote self-esteem, respect, responsibility and appreciation of diversity; develop knowledge, skills and academic achievement; consistent with the New Jersey State Student Learning Standards; prepare each child for continued education and responsible citizenship; instill a lifelong passion for learning.

  3. Goal #1: To nurture collaborative environments by developing positive relationships and promoting community outreach. Strategic Planning ● Motivated and inspired all members of the community to work together to develop consensus regarding how to advance student achievement. (Three meetings) Superintendent’s Roundtable Discussions Parent Advisory Committee (PAC)

District Goal #2: Continue to strengthen safety & security within the Norwood School building ● School Safety Committee ○ Met quarterly with various stakeholders to discuss topics concerning the safety and security of the students and facility ● Share 911 & Lockdown Emergency Notification System (LENS) ○ Increased the school’s ability to informed and to provide response in the event of a threat ● Substitute Handbook ○ Updated to include security protocols and procedures ● Proposed security upgrade to Main Office ○ Comprehensive review of areas of concern within the school’s existing layout

District Goal #2: Continue to strengthen safety & security within the Norwood School building ● Increased Security Expectations ○ Revision of School Security Manual ● Professional Development ○ FBI Workshop - Barbara Daly ○ Bergen County Prosecutors Office - Martin Delaney ● Simulated Fire, Lockdown, and Evacuation Drills ○ In accordance with NJSL 18A:41-1, performed two drills per month ● Norwood Police Department Presence ○ In coordination with NVRHS and Norwood PD

Goal #3: To increase student achievement by individualizing instruction based on student data MAPS and Link it Assessments ● Formative data collected on students, led to targeted instruction and interventions for LA and Math. As of Feb. 2019, 94% of the students are either approaching, meeting or exceeding the NJSLS expectations. 89% of students in K-5 are Reading level on or above grade level. A review of all support and current intervention programs is being completed to determine their effectiveness Development of CRT for Math

Goal #3 To increase student achievement by individualizing instruction based on student data Strategies are being implemented to focus on student engagement and executive function skills ● Advisory Period ● Title I Program ● LATIC training ○ Promote student ownership of learning ○ Provide Student choice embedded within an Authentic Learning Unit ○ Executive Functioning

  9. Goal #3 To increase student achievement by individualizing instruction based on student data LATIC: Authentic Learning Units Eighth Grade: Modern Day Society Reform Seventh Grade: “Leveling the Playing Field” Our City Fourth Grade: “Recess Blacktop Design” Third Grade: “Bill becomes a Law”

Goal #3: To increase student achievement by individualizing instruction based on student data” Google Forms ● Online assessments aligned to the NJSLA ● Differentiation and Modification of assessments. ● Immediate feedback to students ● Data is utilized to drive instructional practice which is more personalized to individual students.

  11. Recommendations for Next Year ● Implement all year 2 activities for strategic planning ● Second cohort for LATIC ● PD on Data driven decision making, Student centered learning, and social emotional learning. ● Continue to collaborate with Norwood Police Department to review protocols and procedures ● Research a new math program for the 2020-2021 School Year ● Expansion of RTI for Grades 1-4 ● Continue with Advisories
