Students residing outside the City and County of Denver are not guaranteed a seat in DPS; but they’re welcome to attend a DPS school! For K-12 students who participate in the Round 1 lottery as an out-of-district resident and then move into the DPS district, please connect with the Office of Choice and Enrollment and we’ll rerun the lottery algorithm for your student.
Second option: Right to neighborhood school or school in Zone.
For ECE students, we’ll reset priorities as appropriate. ECE3, ECE4, and kinder: No tuition assistance available; cost per month will be the out-of-district amount.
SchoolChoice was created in an effort to provide an equitable process to access schools for all Denver families. 1 online application and 1 deadline. Electronic lottery process; students are “stacked” into priority groups and then ranked within priority groups by lottery number. Students are awarded a seat at their most highly preferred school with an available seat. If their most highly preferred school is not available, the student is placed on a live waitlist for any school ranked more highly than their accepted school; lower ranked school choices are cancelled.
All transitioning students for the 19-20 school year:
ECE3, ECE4, and Kinder applicants 5th graders going to 6th grade 8th graders going to 9th grade
