• 1. ¡ The ¡idea ¡behind ¡the ¡“Democracy ¡under ¡Pressure” ¡action ¡

¡

¡ The ¡ “Democracy ¡ under ¡ Pressure” ¡ action, ¡ which ¡ was ¡ designed ¡ on ¡ the ¡ basis ¡ of ¡ the ¡ previous ¡“Free ¡Belarus” ¡action, ¡is ¡unfortunately ¡celebrating ¡its ¡10th ¡anniversary ¡this ¡year. ¡ ¡ ¡ The ¡Free ¡Belarus ¡action ¡was ¡meant ¡to ¡raise ¡awareness ¡on ¡the ¡alarming ¡situation ¡of ¡the ¡ country ¡regarding ¡human ¡rights ¡and ¡democracy; ¡it ¡is ¡still ¡the ¡only ¡State ¡in ¡Europe, ¡which ¡ keeps ¡on ¡using ¡death ¡penalty. ¡ ¡ The ¡previous ¡EB ¡decided ¡to ¡switch ¡to ¡the ¡Democracy ¡under ¡Pressure ¡action, ¡rightfully ¡ assuming ¡that ¡the ¡threats ¡to ¡democracy ¡were ¡disseminated ¡throughout ¡the ¡continent. ¡ ¡ ¡ It ¡is ¡indeed ¡not ¡only ¡in ¡the ¡countries ¡where ¡the ¡most ¡obvious ¡and ¡worrying ¡situations ¡

• ccur ¡that ¡democracy ¡is ¡at ¡risk, ¡but ¡unfortunately ¡in ¡many ¡other ¡places, ¡whether ¡that ¡is ¡

more ¡indirect ¡or ¡implicit. ¡ ¡ The ¡aim ¡of ¡the ¡action ¡is ¡to ¡denounce ¡those ¡threats ¡by ¡stopping ¡to ¡pretend ¡that ¡we ¡do ¡not ¡ feel ¡ concern ¡ about ¡ the ¡ scary ¡ developments ¡ around ¡ us, ¡ and ¡ by ¡ realising ¡ that ¡ those ¡ worrying ¡developments ¡are, ¡often, ¡a ¡lot ¡closer ¡than ¡we ¡would ¡like ¡to ¡think. ¡ ¡ This ¡year, ¡the ¡way ¡we ¡imagined ¡it ¡was ¡to ¡face ¡the ¡truth ¡about ¡our ¡societies ¡and ¡to ¡say ¡out ¡ loud ¡how ¡much ¡pressure ¡we ¡think ¡there ¡is ¡on ¡democracy, ¡by ¡representing ¡the ¡democracy ¡ related ¡issues ¡through ¡the ¡image ¡of ¡what ¡we ¡called ¡the ¡“three ¡diseases”: ¡don’t ¡see, ¡don’t ¡ hear, ¡don’t ¡speak. ¡ ¡ ¡ The ¡ idea ¡ came ¡ from ¡ the ¡ famous ¡ symbol ¡ of ¡ the ¡ Three ¡ Wise ¡ Monkeys, ¡ which ¡ are ¡ represented ¡as ¡being ¡of ¡good ¡mind, ¡speech ¡and ¡action ¡in ¡the ¡Japanese ¡philosophy, ¡but ¡ are ¡ often ¡ considered, ¡ in ¡ Western ¡ societies ¡ as ¡ a ¡ reference ¡ to ¡ those ¡ who ¡ deal ¡ with ¡ impropriety ¡by ¡turning ¡a ¡blind ¡eye. ¡ ¡ ¡ ¡

• 2. ¡ The ¡different ¡ways ¡to ¡implement ¡the ¡action ¡

¡ In ¡ that ¡ regard, ¡ we ¡ would ¡ like ¡ to ¡ offer ¡ you ¡ multiple ¡ examples ¡ of ¡ how ¡ the ¡ action ¡ could ¡ possibly ¡be ¡implemented, ¡so ¡that ¡you ¡could ¡pick ¡up ¡the ¡format ¡that ¡suits ¡you ¡best! ¡ ¡ The ¡two ¡main ¡ideas ¡are: ¡
