Graphs, charts, and tables present information in an organized

  • way. They are very useful tools.

What information do you see organized in graphs, tables, or charts in everyday life?

Frequency: how often a piece of data appears Tally: a way to keep count using lines

Frequency and Tallies Slide 10 / 126

A tally mark is written as a line or group of lines, like this: Each line represents a unit of one. = 1 = 2 = 3 = 4 = 5 = 6 = 7 How would you write 8? 9? How about 10? Notice, that for the amount of five, the last line is drawn across the other four lines.

Tallies Slide 11 / 126

You can show the amount of objects or data that you have by writing tally marks. For example, if you wanted to show 10, you would write: If you wanted to show 13, you would write: How would you write 14 in tally marks? What about 24?

Tallies Slide 12 / 126
