Moving to the Middle East : What I have been told

• The patients are challenging to take care of
• You have to do what the patient requests, otherwise….
• As a woman, your practice will be restricted to female

patients

• The patients are difficult…. only if I want to transplant

my system of beliefs to the current context

• You have to do what the patient requests…. Only if

reasonable . The principles of beneficence,

nonmaleficence, primum non nocere and distributive justice apply…. Communication is key

• Patients are gender neutral once trust is established

• Cultural dimensions of national cultures have been found to

predict cross cultural differences in medical communications

• The larger the PDI, the shorter the information
• The higher the level of uncertainty avoidance, the less

attention to rapport building
