Morning routine

The first thing we are required to do when we get in the design lab is doing our morning journals, check our email, and Google classrooms. We write about what

  • ur goals are and how we can get them done and when they need to be done.

Then every Monday and Friday we meet with our mentors and talk to them about what classes we need to work on and what classes we don't need to work on. Then we do attendance.

Goals of the Week

Every Monday we are responsible for making a list of all the standards or goals that we have for the week. When we do this we are to be specific and tell exactly what we are going to accomplish each week. These are known as our SMART Goals. CGH Smart Goals PD Mentoring Notes

Options of Learning

In the Design Lab there are many different ways of learning. Here are a few examples of some of them: ❖ Project making ❖ Seminars ❖ Online learning ❖ Hands on learning

Places to Work

Down in our Design Lab we have many places for our peers and ourselves to work on our own individual projects. We have the main area where a lot of the students sit, One larger room which is usually split in two, three small (2 people) rooms, two medium sized rooms, Hites’ back room, and the carpet area in the very front of the Design Lab

Our Mentors

Each student was assigned to a mentor at the beginning of the year. Our mentor is who helps us with planning the week out, and helps us to stay on track. Our mentors are:

  • Mr. Conn

  • Ms. Felix

  • Mr. Hites

  • Mr. Hlousek

  • Mr. Messer

  • Ms. Murphey

  • Ms. Tenon

Personal Learning Plan

At the beginning of the year, we set a plan for ourselves called our Personal Learning Plan or PLP. This includes what subjects we need to complete, what subjects we’re taking each quarter, and how we're going to accomplish those goals.

Fishing Lure Project

❖ Student said it was a nice environment because you can interact with the community and other students ❖ Designing Lures: Students worked with the program CAD to design their

  • lures. Students who needed to get geometry standards would work with this
  • program. To get the correct information for their lures they needed to collect

dive curve data. To collect dive curve data students went on fishing trips with Captain Dave and recorded their results on how the lures move in the water and how the weather affects it.

Why...

Many students like this project because they get to work at their own pace. Students get to pick their own projects and these projects have to meet the Ohio Standards for each class they are taking. Students have also flourished with their communication skills, they would communicate with other students that they wouldn’t usually talk to. They would also speak with adults and career professionals about this project and describe their experience.
