Novel Coronavirus

  • The Novel Coronavirus is a new Coronavirus

(SARS-CoV-2)that had not been previously identified.

  • Infection with this virus causes the illness

called coronavirus disease 2019, now called Covid-19.

slide-3
SLIDE 3

How the Virus Spreads

  • The virus is thought to be spread mainly from

person to person

  • Small respiratory droplets from the nose or

the mouth, of an infected person, can land in the mouth, eyes, or nose of those nearby or possibly inhaled by others close by

  • These droplets can land on objects or
  • surfaces. When others touch these surfaces,

then touch their nose, mouth, or eyes, it may be possible that they become infected

  • Coronavirus is easily "killed" by a variety of
  • disinfectants. A list of recommended

disinfectants for SARS or CoV2 is available from the EPA.

slide-4
SLIDE 4

How to avoid spreading the virus

  • Wash hands with soap and water for

approximately 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer (must have at least a 60% alcohol base) when unable to wash hands. Remember after 5-6 times of using hand sanitizer you need to wash with soap and water.

  • Do not touch your face.
  • Cough and sneeze into your elbow/arm

and/or use a Kleenex if available (promptly throw Kleenex in trash can).

  • Clean frequently touched surfaces often.
  • Most importantly STAY HOME if you are sick.
slide-5
SLIDE 5

How to avoid spreading the virus

  • Maintain social distancing
  • Avoid public gatherings and maintain a 6-

foot distance from others. This will help slow the spread of the virus at work and in the community.

  • Wear a mask when you are unable to

maintain 6-foot distance to other people

  • Floor decals will be placed to

support social distancing throughout the building (indoors & outdoors)

  • Signage placed inside the building

regarding hand-washing, mask- wearing and respiratory hygiene

  • n how to manage a suspected case
  • f Covid-19
  • It will be the responsibility of the

Covid-19 Safety Coordinator to ensure that information is provided to individuals who are suspected of having Covid-19 or been in contact with a person with a confirmed case.

  • The decision of whether a test should

be conducted will be determined by the health care provider Nassau Health Department.

What YOU can do

slide-17
SLIDE 17

COVID 19

  • People infected with the coronavirus, even if you do not have

symptoms of the illness, can spread the virus to others.

  • If you believe you have been exposed, do not come to work,

and seek medical or health department advice.

  • Exposed individuals or those with suspected illness should self-

quarantine for 14 days or a minimum of 10 days from the first sign

  • f symptoms and are fever free for 72 hours.
slide-18
SLIDE 18

What YOU can do

  • CDC RECOMMENDS THAT PEOPLE WEAR CLOTH

FACE COVERING TO COVER THEIR NOSE AND MOUTH WHEN OUT IN A COMMUNITY SETTING. THIS IS TO BE DONE ALONG WITH SOCIAL DISTANCING AND WASHING YOUR HANDS FREQUENTLY. THESE NEED TO BE DONE ALONG WITH ANY OTHER PREVENTATIVE METHODS YOU CHOOSE TO PRACTICE.

  • A cloth face covering is not intended to protect

the wearer, but to prevent the spread of the virus from the wearer to others.

  • This is important if someone is infected but does not

have symptoms.

  • A cloth face covering should be worn whenever

an individual goes out in public setting (i.e.. Grocery stores, department store, etc..).

slide-19
SLIDE 19

FACE COVERINGS

slide-20
SLIDE 20

FACE MASKS

  • Do NOT offer the wearer

protection from airborne contaminants

  • Protects others from

respiratory droplets of the wearer

  • Disposable, single use or

reusable fabric

  • Not a respirator
  • Does not need fit tested or

medical approval to wear

slide-21
SLIDE 21

SURGICAL MASKS

  • Do NOT provide the wearer reliable

protection from smaller airborne particles

  • Does provide fluid protection against

large droplets, splashes and sprays

  • FDA approved masks offer protection

from liquid droplets and may have a coating to aid filtering.

  • Disposable or Single use
  • Not a respirator (does not need fit testing
  • r medical approval)
slide-22
SLIDE 22

the addition of a mask.

slide-24
SLIDE 24
