  1. Presentation to AOD sector : Waiting times – • Potential Health target • PP8 Reporting (longest waiting time) Dr Barry Welsh (MOH)

  2. Context • 31,000 people reported seen by AOD services in 2010 • 76% (205/267) NGOs reporting to PRIMHD • PRIMHD is referral based • PP8 longest waiting time reporting • Possible health target

  3. Possible target considerations • CEP • Acute discharge – community contact • Waiting times

  4. Proposed Health Target 2012/13 • 80% of people referred for non- urgent mental health or addiction services are seen within three weeks and 100% of people are seen within 8 weeks.

  5. Proposed Health Target 2012/13 • The wait time will be counted from the time the referral is accepted and loaded into the patient management system for a person who has not been seen for at least a year (or not at all) to the time of the first face to face contact with a mental health or addiction professional. • The wait time will also be calculated for provider arm services and AOD NGOs. • Where there are two referrals open for the same client the earliest referral will be counted.

  6. Proposed Health Target 2012/13 The wait time will exclude the following: • PRIMHD activity_type_codes T08 (mental health group programme attendances), T24 (work opportunities programme attendances), T32 (mental health contact with family/whanua), T35 (did not attend), T37 (on leave), T43 (community support contacts), T44 (advocacy), T45 (peer support) • Activty_Setting_Codes WR (written), SM (text), PH (phone) • Referral_end_codes RI (referral declined-inability to provide services requested) or RO (referral declined other services more appropriate) or DD (Died) or DM (did not attend following the referral)

  10. Future of longest waiting time reporting (PP8) • Look to replacing PP8 longest waiting time methodology with health target methodology (if MH&A health target not approved by Minister) • If Health target approved current PP8 would be dropped.
