Objectives

 Educate residents about green stormwater infrastructure practices, goals and strategies.  Inform residents of overconsumption and lack of recharge of the aquifer through demonstration projects.  Illustrate connection between urban and agricultural communities through hands on projects.  Target nontraditional audiences through multimedia

  • utreach and diverse education strategies.

 Increase awareness of impairments and restoration strategies for the Cohansey River and the Kirkwood‐ Cohansey aquifer in an underserved community.

Successes

‐Highly visible installations. ‐Connecting with a water champion community partner to spearhead projects within local government. ‐Reaching out to non‐ traditional partners for projects. ‐9 rain gardens, 40 barrels, 4 planter boxes.

Lessons Learned

‐Routine maintenance and

supervision needed on all projects. ‐Need to spend more time educating residents before and after project installation.

Next Steps for 2017

 Install 3 bio‐retention systems at Upper Deerfield Elementary Schools.  Introduce water conservation education program in Bridgeton and Upper Deerfield high schools.  Distribute rain barrels throughout Bridgeton (goal=50 barrels distributed to residents)  Complete “Stormwater Walk” field trip at Bridgeton and Barrett’s Run preserve.  Install cistern at Buckshutem Elementary school in Bridgeton
