Workforce development www.statelibrary.pa.gov > Youth Services 2018 One Book, Every Young Child www.statelibrary.pa.gov > Youth Services GOAL 1 -- Libraries provide experiences that have impact beyond the program. Examples include, coding, drawing, painting, writing, photography, Yoga, and sewing . GOAL 2 -- Libraries offer age appropriate literacy based programming to help children increase their reading and writing skills. Libraries don’t teach children to read and write, but give them ways to practice and grow. GOAL 3 -- Libraries make intentional efforts to reach children most in need of what the library provides during the summer. www.statelibrary.pa.gov > 2

  3. 10/16/2017 POWER Library • E-Resources RFP Current contract for EBSCO and SIRS Discoverer expires in December We will continue to have the following: AP Images; Consumer Health; BookFlix; TrueFlix; EBSCO e-books; Contemporary Authors; Cyber Smarts • TrueFlix Science and social studies resource. While it is designed for 3 rd through 6 th graders it is great for English language learners and adults just learning to read. • URL Changes If you can’t access TrueFlix, it may be your library hasn’t changed its URL’s for POWER Library e‐resources. Talk to HSLC in the Exhibits today as these must be changed by October 31 or you lose access to all of POWER Library www.statelibrary.pa.gov > Questions? www.statelibrary.pa.gov > Overview of Library Services The State Library’s collections stretch back to the beginnings of the Commonwealth -- • Great resource for genealogists and National History Day student research • Did you ever wonder what the real Mason Dixon map was and how it came to be? • Wonder where you can find an historic topographical map of PA Services include: • Interlibrary loan of newspaper microfilm • Tours for groups of students and librarians • Access to Mortality Schedules, Passenger Lists, and church records such as baptisms and marriages • Speakers on genealogy research, digitization and STEM topics www.statelibrary.pa.gov > 3

  4. 10/16/2017 Digitization Projects • Scan PA 26 library systems and district library centers which represent 449 libraries have participated in HSLC’s pilot project over the last year. • Table Top Scribe Station The State Library has 2 table-top Scribe stations to loan to libraries around the commonwealth.   6. 10/16/2017 Certification Certification Committee • Mary Garm • Melinda Tanner • Beth Bisbano • The Committee’s priority continues to be the list of directors who were classified as long-term non-certified in 2015. Pennsylvania has two Regional Libraries for the Blind and Physically Handicapped who can help.
