  4. ENERGY- NET ZERO INNOVATION CENTER Energy : Solar panels, • dashboard, new technologies Water : rain capture • system, aerators Waste : adding • vermicomposter to recycling and trash streams. Awarded a Greenovation Grant from CSSA in partnership with ASI • Transform the outdoor picnic table area of Central Plant into a net zero demonstration site/educational event space • Future venue for lunch and learn events, Central Plant tour orientation, lectures, and more! • Unveiling event TBD (around Earth Day) •

  5. WATER- UTILITY ASSESSMENTS Met with Cal Water (potable) and West Basin (reclaimed)- potential irrigation assessment, rebates, and retrofit  programs.

  6. RECYCLING UPDATE- EDUCATION Campus-wide e-mail going out this month:  Recycling 101 Guide infographic  Reminder of Race to Reduce events (especially recycling station in Week 1) & Earth Day  Exterior Recycling:  Mostly labeled/three-bin system- landfill, mixed recycling, cans & bottles  Dumpsters almost all in place: NSM, Theater, LCH, Extended Ed, CDC/ITC; SBS delivered.  GEO 420 assistance (recycling evaluation as part of service-learning requirement) 

  7. RECYCLING UPDATE- INTERIOR RECYCLING Still waiting on pricing from Rubbermaid vendors.  Likely a building-by-building effort. 

  8. CAMPUS FARM UPDATE Approved!  Contact: Office of Sustainability (Ellie), Farm Interns (Alicia and Hawk), and faculty champion (Jenney Hall).  Currently accepting planting proposals (e-mail Hawk at ahawkmcfazden@toromail.csudh.edu)  Adding a compost drop-off bin for campus users while we get commercial composting services scoped out. 

  9. CAMPUS FARM- SITE PLANS Currently the Farm is preparing • approximately 30 planting beds for use by faculty teaching courses, student/staff groups, and individuals/off-campus entities (in that order of priority). Plots are reserved on a • semester by semester basis, and are intended to grow edible plants organically. Food not claimed by the user will be distributed to food insecure students in compliance with the California Good Samaritan Food Donation Act (AB 1219). Other program models for food • distribution are also being researched.

  10. SUSTAINABLE FOOD Working with Campus Dining on adding a Farmers Market to Earth Day and the rest of the weeks thereafter for  the rest of the semester with the potential to renew for the upcoming academic year. Trying to pilot best times/days as well as offerings (prepared vs. produce, crafters vs. packaged, etc.)  Dining also working on sustainable food options as part of Food Advisory Committee meetings.  Working out logistics of food distribution on-campus (i.e. from Farm). 

  11. ACADEMICS Currently Scheduled:  GEO 420- Recycling presentation and GIS project to map recycling bins (presented Feb 12 th )  CHEM 108 – Energy Efficiency 101 lecture and tour of Central Plant (March)  Central Plant T our for Sports Management Class (March)  Others?  Academic senate meeting in Fall 2018 

  12. AASHE STARS REPORTING UPDATE A few gaps left:  Dining data is not aligned with AASHE STARS, requires significant work on Dining’s end to collect (will take time)  Need to assemble an inventory of faculty researching sustainability topics (need help)  Academic inventory for courses available on website: https://www.csudh.edu/sustainability/campus-  initiatives/academics/

  13. WORKING GROUP UPDATES Sustainable Landscape Working Group- approved final draft of Sustainable Landscape Plan on Friday (going up on  website soon) Must contact Committee to have a student-run garden recognized under this umbrella.  Earth Day Working Group  Committee meets 1 st Wednesdays, 1pm at SLICE Conference Room- Next meeting is Wednesday, March 7 @ 1pm.  Space (East and West Walkways) already booked for Thursday, April 19, 2018.  Sign up with and/or reach out to Ellie Perry at eperry@csudh.edu or call x2303 
