Conceptual Understanding Procedural Skill & Fluency Application
- Teach more than “how to get the answer”
and instead support students’ ability to access concepts from a number of perspectives.
- Students are able to see math as more than
a set of mnemonics or discrete procedures.
- Conceptual understanding supports the
- ther aspects of rigor (fluency and
application).
- The Standards require speed and accuracy
in calculation.
- Teachers structure class time and/or
homework time for students to practice core functions so that they are more able to understand and manipulate more complex concepts.
Solve real-world problems with a degree of
difficulty appropriate to the grade/course.
Apply knowledge and skills, extending to more
complex problems, knowledge and skills articulated in previous grades/courses
Engage in modeling practice through:
- making sense of problems & persevering to solve them
- reasoning abstractly and quantitatively
- using appropriate tools strategically
- looking for and making use of structure
- looking for and expressing regularity in repeated reasoning

Computer Based
Assessments
- ELA 9
- ELA 10
- ELA 11
- Research Simulation Task (RST) - students are asked
to analyze an informational topic presented through several texts or multimedia stimuli. Students engage with the texts by answering a series of questions and writing an analytic response to a prompt, synthesizing information from multiple sources.
- Literary Analysis Task (LAT) - students read and
analyze two pieces of literature. Types of texts include short stories, novels, poems, or other types
- f literature. Students write an analytic response to a
prompt based on the literary texts.
- Narrative Writing Task (NWT) - students read a
literary text from a grade-appropriate short story, novel, poem, or other type of literature. Students write a narrative response to a prompt based on this literary text

In conjunction with NJ State law, the River Dell Board of Ed. has established a policy which requires each student be present in class a minimum of 90% of the time in order to receive credit for a course.
A student will lose credit in a course or courses if he or she reaches the following number of absences:
- 9 absences in a one semester course
- 18 absences in a full year course
All excused and unexcused absences are included in a student’s attendance record. Students may appeal a loss of credit based on reason for the absences.
In the case of excessive absences, the
assistant principal or designee will carefully review attendance records at the conclusion
- f each quarter of the school year and meet
with those students who have accumulated excessive absences.
Parents of these students will be informed of
absences on a bimonthly basis through an attendance letter.
Comprised of the principal, assistant
principal, director of pupil personnel services, nurse and teacher.
Review cases of each student whose
attendance violations appear to warrant the loss of credit for a course or courses.
Provide the student with an opportunity to
appeal his or her loss of credit by presenting documentary evidence in support of the appeal.
A copy of the Attendance Policy can be found
- n the schools website.
www.riverdell.org
