Step 1: Decide on a Presentation Topic

  • 1. Determine what you would like to present to students in grades 9-11 about your high school experience.

This should be a notable experience that you had during your time at CHS (Internship, Dual Enrollment, CCCTC Program, Completer Program, Career Major, Extra-Curricular Activity, Independent Study, Participation in a School Production, Leadership Roles, Applying for a Job, Applying for and Getting into College, Finding and Applying for Scholarships, Sports, Managing Stress in High School, etc.)

  • 2. Determine the goal of your presentation. What do you want your audience to know? Try finishing this

Step 2: Register Online by Friday, March 27th

Go to the Century website to register online.

  • 1. https://www.carrollk12.org/schools/high/chs
  • 2. On the top menu select School Forms.
  • 3. Click on the Senior Presentations Registration Link.
  • 4. Answer all the questions on the registration form including the abstract. For help with writing your

abstract, please see pages 2-5 of this document.

  • 5. Provide an email that you check often. Email will be our main form of communication with you.
  • 6. All partners must register separately. Make sure the Title and Abstract matches for all partners. Check

Spelling & Grammar before submitting!!!

  • 7. CCCTC quarter 4 students must receive written approval from CCCTC teacher to participate.

Step 3: Create your Presentation-Draft due by May 1

  • 1. Attend a mandatory flex or after school meeting on April 2. At this meeting we will discuss guidelines for

developing your presentation.

  • 2. Please contact Mrs. Smith Hughes for flex workshops those who want this time to work on your presentations.

Email Mrs. Smith Hughes to sign up for flex or after school sessions at amsmit3@carrollk12.org. Include the dates you are available.

  • 3. Submit a draft of your presentation materials to Mrs. Smith Hughes (through Turnitin.com) by May 1st.

Step 4: Present! Senior Presentations are May 19

 Make sure you are ready by May 19 with all of your presentation materials: PowerPoint, Prezi, handouts, activities, prizes, etc. Dress professionally!

Helpful Tips for Writing Your Abstract

  • 1. Begin by developing a goal for your presentation. For example, “By the end of this presentation, students will be

able to…”

  • 2. Summarize the main points of your presentation in your abstract.
  • 3. Make your abstract interesting! Your abstract is what gets students to sign up to see your presentation!
  • 4. Share the abstract with someone to get feedback. Did the abstract get them interested in your presentation? Be

sure to edit your work!

  • 5. The title of your abstract should be the same as the title of your presentation. Make it catchy!

Some examples:

BIM Title: Internship at America's Remote Help Desk My presentation will be on America’s Remote Help Desk (ARHD). I will specify and cover what they do and what their responsibilities are as an IT company. You will get a feel for what it’s like to work in a business environment and view things from a business stand point. General Title: Do you fear the Turtle? Getting in to the University of Maryland We applied to several colleges and determined that the University of Maryland was right for us. We will discuss the increasing selectivity of the University of Maryland, increasing number of applicants, and planning for acceptance into this university. AHC Fashion CCCTC Title: Fabulous Fashion Is fashion your passion? I have attended the Career and Technology Center and created my own club and independent

  • study. Attend this fabulous presentation to learn about my experiences and sew much more!

STEM Science Research Title: Science Research: It’s Infectious! Interested in microbiology or infectious disease? Come to this session to see how you can get involved with independent research and for an overview of my very own project! HHSS Law and Legal Career Major Title: The Verdict on a Law and Legal Internship Are you interested in a career in law? I was a law and legal career major and applied this coursework during my internship at the office of the Public Defender.

Eldersburg Vet hospital internship I will be talking about my internship at Eldersburg vet hospital where I got to watch all different kinds of surgeries. Learned how to handle animals, draw up vaccines, run test, and see some of the cutest animals. STEM Finding the Right Career I want to share my story of how I shifted my career focus from engineering to physical therapy. I want to express how it is okay to change your mind, and that it is important to pursue something that excites you. STEM Fishing with Gibson In our presentation, we will discuss the variety of opportunities provided through the course Science Research. We will present on the various research opportunities that students can experience, and the independent nature of the course. STEM How I got to spend half of my school day with cats and dogs. My presentation is going to be on what I have done at the vet clinic that I intern at. I will be describing things that I do on a daily basis plus some special cases.
