The Hub

 “I love the idea of a hub connecting Joy Hall to the Sanctuary. It

makes the church seem united. But in the diagram it seems it leaves the foyer being wasted space.”

 Could doors between the foyer and hub be sliding/folding hybrid

to combine the two spaces (even as two different levels)?

 Response: We will have to put some more thought to how to make

the best use of the foyer if we proceed with a hub. These are good

  • thoughts. One consideration is that the foyer does serve as a

transitional zone as people move from social space to worship space.

The Hub

 “I like the idea of a hub that opens to the courtyard which could be

beautifully landscaped for outdoor use.”

 Suggestion: outline where the hub would be in the courtyard

 Great idea! Bob laid out a duct tape outline.

Kids areas

 Suggestion: Kids rooms may need sound insulation in between

(sound travels between the library and kids rooms today).

 “Kidʼs only bathroom for elementary is my favorite part…make

things so much easier”

 Will preschoolers have to walk through another classroom to

access playground?

 Response: There is another route along the back of the C building.

Kids areas

 “Love the childrenʼs area.”  Will there be space for the swap shop? (Clothes ministry to kids

and moms) Response: Yes. We will find space, hopefully by check in/library.

 Will secured kids passageway have windows?

 Response: Yes, first draft had a glass wall.

 “I would suggest a bar code type registration for young families…”

  •  Yes, our new church management software has a childrenʼs check in

component we will use.

Kids areas

 Will there be a centralized pick up (or three stops if you have

nursery, preschool and elementary)?

 There will be 2 or 3 stops for parents with kids in all age groups (like

today).  Preschool Playground

 “It would be really nice to have a play area for the kids away from the

street”

 “Playground enclosed for preschool area would be great for weather

and safety and sound.”

The Sanctuary

 Considering Chairs in our Sanctuary

 Will the chairs be connected? Most likely.  Will chairs require maintenance/set up? Who does that?

 Response: Rarely. The chairs will likely interlock, limiting movement.

We also donʼt expect to take chairs out often. Facilities staff and volunteers would do the change out of chairs when needed.  How do chairs work with kids? (VBS, choir signing, etc)

 Response: Great. They could be removed as needed.

The Sanctuary

 Suggestion: Consider the grandeur of our long sanctuary when

planning on audio/visual changes.

 The length is part of our challenge to see and hear what is happening

upfront, but weʼll certainly weigh the benefits and drawbacks of our

  • ptions—including the aesthetic impact.

The garden/prayer room

 “I love the idea of a prayer space in the garden with access directly

from the sanctuary—rear of the sanctuary ideal.”

 “The postlude make it hard to hear when people come up for prayer.

I suggest separating the prayer area from the front of the sanctuary.”

 Consider options to make/keep the garden visible from the sanctuary.

 Response: Good point. The visibility of the garden should be dramatically

increased with a new aisle configuration and improvements to visual

  • projection. Weʼll keep this in mind.

Other Comments

 Solar panels—Would they keep costs down?

 Doesnʼt look like it. High upfront cost and limited tax benefits for a

  • church. Bob Miller has looked into this recently.

 Well-maintained facilities reassure people. Can we do more of

this maintenance now (dusting, deep cleaning bathrooms)?

 Bob Miller is seeking quotations from other cleaning services to

address some of this concern. Higher quality services cost more.  Any plans for multi-level parking?

 No. Parking structures are cost prohibitive.

Other Comments

 Will there be enough first floor restrooms once the C building

restrooms are part of the secure kids area?

 This is a good concern and one we will certainly address.  We lose 4 menʼs and 4 womenʼs.  We gain 1 menʼs and 1 womenʼs in Joy Hall.  We gain unknown (TBD) menʼs and womenʼs in the first floor of the B-

building

 We gain womenʼs capacity in the Sanctuary (when we switch the

restrooms).

 We meet code requirements for restroom capacity and accessibility.
