History

  • Two reports from 2000 made problem clear

– The Economy League of Greater Philadelphia produced a report Greater Philadelphia’s Know ledge Industry: Leveraging the Regions’ Colleges and Universities in the New Econom y.

  • Report pointed out the disconnect between colleges and

universities and the regions economic and demographics statistics.

– Knowledge Industry Partnership (KIP) comprised of Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation, Campus Philly and Innovation Philly (now defunct) report showed:

– Philadelphia was doing OK in keeping their native students in the

  • region. 86% retention rate

– Not doing so well with other students– 29% retention rate

HISTORY

  • 2004

– Campusphilly.org became 501 non-profit with clear mission as a resource to connect college students with the city and region and to connect cultural organizations, employers and civic groups with the almost 300,000 full time equivalent students attending 101 institutions

  • f higher education.

ATTRACT

  • Applications to Greater Philadelphia regional

colleges and universities rose 75% between 2001 and 2009

– Higher rate than in 14 of the large metro areas including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Portland and DC

  • 44% of students in the region applied to more

than one school in the Philly area.

  • 49% of students going to school in the region

say that Philly was a positive factor in their decision to go to school here.

ENGAGE

  • Campus Philly reaches 65%of regional students

each year

– Via Insider guides, weekly newsletters, CampusPhilly.org, and through internship and job- finding programs and services

  • 45% of students say they know Philly well

– If they are aware of CampusPhilly this increases to 51%

  • 74% of recent alumni who know Philly well stayed

for a year or more post graduation

– Only 15% of those who said they didn’t get to know Philly well stayed on past graduation

  • In 2010 48% of non-native alumni reported staying in

Philly post graduate

– In 2004 the rate was 29%

  • Internships are key

– 80% of those who stayed on past graduation reported that they had an internship in the area during college

  • On line and free internship matching service

– During 2011

  • 5870 students accounts
  • 2519 posted positions

– 8% of employer internships are filled via the Campus Philly tool.
