  7. 8/10/17 A Family Perspective: Hurdles v 2008 – poor job market v Provider/transportation options poorly aligned with Andy’s family home v Hours and even days alone while job developer checked out options v No formal structure to process experiences v Very little feedback when job interview failed, causing loss of confidence and self- respect leading to depression A Family Perspective: Lessons Learned v Job seeker benefits from understanding what it means to be “self-determined” v Family benefits from understanding and respecting the value of supported decision making v Provider must realize that time spent up front getting to know the individual in their own environments, engaged in things they enjoy, will provide a better fit and long term placement success 7
