Digital training requirements

Introduction

Motivation: Digitalization is a natural element of the wind industry and GWO has therefore had the addition of digital requirements in the pipeline since the update of the criteria for training provider and criteria for certification bodies was scoped. The Covid-19 situation and recent digitalization momentum amongst GWO members and training providers led to an acceleration of the digital requirements. The requirements which are currently an addendum set out the framework for delivering GWO training standards digitally, and also cover the governance elements associated with them. Practicalities ▪ Released as addendum to: ▪ Criteria for training providers ▪ Criteria for certification bodies ▪ Will be embedded in the version 7 and 9 launched on Monday 20th April (webinar 22nd April): ▪ Requirements for training providers ▪ Requirements for certification bodies

Governance

  • Digital learning is an extention of certificate meaning an audit is

required by an approved CB

  • Audit can be conducted as a remote audit using online tools and

comply with IAF MD 4:2018

  • Assessment of training in the domain of knowledge may be assessed

using digital methods

  • Assessment of training in the domains of skills and attitude require

practical demonstration

  • Procedure in place for limitations and mitigation of these for digital

learning

  • Ensure compliance with the criteria and standard
  • Ensure data legislation is adhered to
  • Digital learning must ensure a high level of realism with a WTG

environment to enable the course participant to use the knowledge and skills

  • TP must verify the identity of the participant and assess the learning
  • TP must ensure that participant completes any practical exercises

within 4 weeks after completion of the digital learning.

FAQ

Are the digital training requirements temporary?

  • No digital training is here to stay, it is a persistant requirement.

What does “other technologies” mean?

  • Any technologies that support learning. Furthermore, the requirements are worded so

they can maintain their relevance in a fast-paced environment. Can a training standard be fully delivered digitally?

  • If the digital requirements are adhered to, the learning objectives fully met including all

practical exercises in a safe manner, and the training provider is approved to do so by an auditor for that specific module – yes. How long can a blended training run for?

  • All elements of a blended training must be completed within four weeks.

Do you see GWO releasing training standards designed for digital delivery?

  • The BSTR-P is a digital training standard, there are currently no more planned.

When will the digital requirements be reviewed?

  • Running review up until the May release, after that we will revisit them in October.

This is a new area, will there be special support for TPs?

  • We are always open and will set up additional webinars if needed.
