The impact of COVID-19 on Brady

  • Brady has been identified as an essential service
  • Split shifts to keep staff physically separated

– if one employee were to get sick, entire shift would go into isolation

  • Practicing social distancing at the depots—only one vehicle

permitted to use a bin at a time

  • Following SWANA recommendations to maintain a safe,

controlled environment

  • Medical waste does not go to Brady

Odour, Noise and Nuisance Management

  • Received 15 odour complaints since last meeting

– from 9 individuals – 4 were determined not to have originated from Brady

  • Falconers back on site for bird management
  • Challenges with litter collection/physical distancing

– working on mechanical solutions to address litter

Site Improvements, Seasonal & Project Activity

  • Upgrading of service road along Perimeter will occur this

summer – some trees and fencing on east end of site will be lost – fence will be rebuilt and trees replanted

  • Curbside yard waste collection for 2020 began May 4
  • Annual compost giveaway has been postponed (details to

come)

Reducing the Impact on the Environment

  • Expanding landfill gas capture system into cells 30 & 31

– includes drilling wells, excavation, seeding and vegetating north slope of cell 30 – odours expected for a day or two during construction – once done, odours will be improved – plan to have work done by fall 2020

Research Partnerships & Resource Development

  • RFP issued and awarded to Tetra Tech for LFG to energy

study – looking at the best way for us to use the LFG

New business

  • Organics pilot RFP has been awarded and is in the

development phase – will include 4,000 homes – studying route selection, container type, etc. – plan to launch in fall 2020

  • Working on a recycling video
  • Recent recycling messaging has been focused on COVID-

19 related items (masks, gloves, tissues, etc.)
