OSSLT DEFINITIONS

OSSLT - Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test

All students who wish to graduate with an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (O.S.S.D.) must

complete their literacy requirement either through the OSSLT or the OLC (Ontario Literacy Course) First-Time Eligible (F.T.E.)

Students in Grade 10 writing the OSSLT for the first-time
This is the larger group of students writing the OSSLT (292 wrote in 2017/2018)

Previously Eligible (P.E.)

Students OLDER than Grade 10 who have either written or NOT written the OSSLT
This is smaller group of students writing the OSSLT (84 wrote in 2016/2017)

Deferred

Students who are not ready to write and moved to the following year

Exempted

Students not writing the OSSLT and NOT working towards an OSSD
