BGE Frankford Avenue Walking Path Project Background

  • Walking path begins at Frankford Avenue and Force Road and connects at Sinclair Lane.
  • Walking path has been in BGE plans for 15+ years and is located within BGE Right-of-Way (ROW).
  • BGE has met with the community and community leadership over the past several years about the

walking path.

  • In early May 2020, letters were mailed out to the community to inform them that the installation of the

walking path would begin in mid-May. The walking path installation was completed in mid-June.

  • Updated project signs have been installed along the ROW with project contact information.
  • As of today, wildflower planting beds are scheduled to be installed along the ROW in late

September/early October 2020.

  • Working with Baltimore City, the options for the path restricted the use of impervious surface. In

addition, a paved or concrete surface would not allow BGE to maintain its underground equipment in this area.

BGE Frankford Avenue Walking Path Wildflower Plantings

  • BGE is listening to the community and being responsive to concerns.
  • Instead of planting flowers along the entire length of the walking path, we

have now separated the plantings into individual planting beds.

  • In response to safety concerns, we have changed the flower bed mix so that

most plantings won’t be above three feet in height.

  • We will use a seed drill or similar ‘no-till’ method to plant wildflower mix.
  • Community should expect wildflower maturity in three to five years.
