Basic 2: Narrative Presentation Objective: To evaluate your ability to describe life experiences and narrate past events. You will give the audience a clear understanding of something meaningful that happened in your life. This will take the form of a story. Task: Describe a significant life experience and include the following information:
- Who was involved?
- What happened?
- When did the events take place?
- Where did the events take place?
- Why was this experience important in your life?
Choosing a Story to Tell: You will talk about an interesting or meaningful life experience. This should be something that happened in your own
- life. Your story should engage and interest the audience.
A good story usually shows transformation or change. Your story might explain:
- An experience that changed you
- An experience that helped you solve a difficult problem
- An experience that taught you something valuable
- An experience that helped you make a difficult decision
Telling Your Story:
- A. Begin by telling the audience the background information they need to understand the story
- B. Describe the action or event that started the story
- C. Carefully take the audience through the actions and events of the story
- I. Be sure to use the correct verb tenses for past actions
- II. Be sure to use time phrases (then, after that, several days later, etc.) to help the audience
understand the sequence of events
- D. Describe how the story ended and how it made an impact on your life
