Dear Parish Family: Forty days after Jesus was born, in accordance with the Torah, Mary and Joseph brought him to the temple in Jerusalem to be presented to the Lord. What they could not have know is that two elderly habitués of the temple, Simeon and Anna, recognize in the six week old child the Savior

  • f the world. As we celebrate this special feast day today, let us challenge ourselves to recognize Jesus

in the faces of those we meet. QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK Whom do I ignore without even considering that they may be speaking the truth? How can I be more open and attentive to other people’s voices?

FEBRUARY’S NATIONAL COLLECTION: This month, parishes in our Diocese are conducting a special collection for the Church in Central and Eastern

  • Europe. This collection helps our brothers and sisters like the people of Armenia who have experienced persecution and displacement throughout their

history and now live scattered throughout the world—many in areas of former Soviet bloc countries such as Georgia, Russia, and other areas of Eastern

  • Europe. Armenian Catholic youth are particularly vulnerable as they deal with difficult daily circumstances, often isolated from their religious and cultural
  • heritage. The collection will be taken up the weekend of February 18.

PARISH MINISTRIES

The Prayer Shawl Ministry is working on a new project called POCKET PRAYER SQUARES. The squares are small in size (3”x 3”or smaller) and easy to make in one meeting. The blessed Prayer squares are intended for a pocket or a purse to remind recipients that they are loved, people are pray- ing for you or just a simple way to say “Hi to God.” The POCKET PRAYER SQUARES can be made in 30 minutes or less and are ideal for those who prefer to carry a blessed prayer square rather than a full prayer shawl. We are looking for volunteers. We invite members of the Youth Ministry and Confirmation students to join us , you will be able to accumulate service hours. We will provide patterns, wool and training. Just bring your crochet hook size J

  • r K or knitting needles.

Of course, we will continue to make prayer shawls as well. If you don't have the time to make full shawls but can give 30 minutes of your time to crochet or knit, please join us on Thursday, February 6. Anyone requesting a prayer shawl should fill out a form in the lobby of STA/SJV and leave the completed form in the

  • basket. We will contact you with a time to pick up your shawl. For immediate need, please call Gabby Dyl at 973-713-
  • 0280. The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets at STA at 7:30 pm the first Thursday of the month. Next meeting: THIS Thursday, Febru-

ary 6. For more information call Renee Ferreri: 518-321-5236. SPRITUAL LIFE MINISTRY: EUCHARISTIC ADORATION: Adoration is a time of silent reflection and prayer.
