  15. Legal Drone Opera&ons • For Fun • Registra1on is ‘required’ for UAS above 0.55lbs • Newly implemented and legally contested move • For Money • Currently requires a FAA 333 Exemp1on, aircra\ N-number, pilots license, and strict opera1ng procedures • Coming (2017?) new FAA regula1ons for sUAS not requiring an exemp1on or pilots license (new drone license), very similar other opera1onal requirements

  16. Non-Commercial Rules • Register aircra\: hFp://www.faa.gov/uas/registra1on/ • Fly below 400 feet and remain clear of surrounding obstacles • Keep the aircra\ within visual line of sight at all 1mes • Remain well clear of and do not interfere with manned aircra\ opera1ons • Don't fly within 5 miles of an airport • Don't fly near people or stadiums • Don't fly an aircra\ that weighs more than 55 lbs • Don't be careless or reckless with your unmanned aircra\ – you could be fined for endangering people or other aircra\

  17. Commercial Rules – Part I • Limited to requested exempt aircra\, all required under 55lbs • Clear day1me opera1ng condi1ons • VLOS with visual observer • PIC holds a minimum of a sports pilots license and valid US driver license • Opera1ng documents must be accessible for all flight by PIC • Aircra\ maintenance, inspec1on, flight hours logging • Follow detailed flight opera1onal procedures, checklists

  18. Commercial Rules – Part II • Monthly repor1ng to FAA of flights • Flights under 200\ above ground level with blanket COA, special request for up to 400\ • Opera1ons 2-5nm away from airports (depending on the type) • Special COA, LOA, and coordina1on with ATC for opera1ons within airport radius’ • Aircra\ registra1on with N-number markings • Opera1ons must be over 500\ away from all non-par1cipa1ng persons • Permission granted from property owner • File a NOTAM 24-72 hours prior to opera1ons

  19. Cloud9Drones Exemp&on Experience • First exemp1ons granted to Hollywood aerial companies for closed-set filming on September 25, 2014 • First exemp1on for industrial work granted on December 10, 2014 • Cloud9Drones prepared required documenta1on (3 months) and submiFed its exemp1on in March (Costs then were about $10k for legal help) • FAA Exemp1on Granted in June 2015 • Aircra\ registra1on submiFed for several aircra\ and received in about 10+ days • Amendments submiFed and granted for addi1onal aircra\ • COAs and LOAs requested and granted for near airport and above 200\ opera1ons. 60 day turn around.
