New I.D. Machine

The ASSC purchased a new I.D. machine to distribute new chip technology in which cards can be slid to access information about the student.

ASSC Leadership Retreat

January 10-12, 2018 ASSC officers went to Tahoe City to plan for the Spring semester. The purpose of the retreat was to strengthen leadership skills and expand knowledge of cultural competency, equity and social justice.

Cyclone Gita Relief Fundraiser

In February 2018, Cyclone Gita destroyed Pago Pago, the capital city

ASSC had a donut fundraiser to make money and donate to the Community College of American Samoa.

Lunar New Year Celebration

The ASSC celebrated Lunar New Year with:

  • Red Envelopes with good

fortunes.

  • Oranges and traditional

Chinese snacks that are consumed at Lunar New Year.

  • A traditional Chinese

calligrapher who wrote students’ names in Chinese.

for students to try.

National School Walkout

The ASSC organized Skyline’s student Walkout in protest of gun violence on college campuses. They were joined by students, faculty, staff and administration. Skyline College President Regina Stanback-Stroud spoke to the student body after a moment of silence.

Women’s History Reception

In celebration of Women’s History Month, Students, Faculty and Staff came together to have an open discussion about modern feminism.

Student Equity Committee To promote equity from the student perspective and ensure that each student feels they are safe and protected on Skyline Campus Programming Board Committee To propose and design new events for the student population during the entire academic year. Fundraiser Committee To create fundraising activities for those affected by natural disasters such as hurricanes and wildfires.

Upcoming Events

Asian Heritage Festival Our large Burmese student population will join ASSC in celebrating Songkran, the Water Festival of Southeast

  • Asia. In addition there

will be musical performances, vendors and an ASSC hosted Asian fashion show in the dining hall. Day of Silence On Day of Silence, the ASSC will have a few community non-profit

  • ffer services for LGBTQ+
  • students. The ASSC will

host a reception and discussion to stand for an anti-bullying campaign. Pacific Heritage Day The ASSC will be celebrating the Polynesian islands and its rich history and heritage with a cultural lecture from Tonga, dances from Tahiti and a mini cultural play about Samoan legends. Public Safety Education The ASSC plans to partner with Public Safety Officers to educate students about anti-violence on campus. This will be on 4/20, in honor of the victims of the Columbine Shooting Masscre that occurred 19 years ago.

The ASSC will be holding student body elections in which new officers will be elected for the Fall 2018/Spring 2019 term.
