The prophecies still swam through Macbeth's mind as he made his way back to the camp to greet King Duncan - the mere thought of the golden crown on his head energised his body with power and greed. Banquo trailed behind still concerned about the encounter on the heath. With great pleasure, King Duncan greeted the brave warriors; he silenced the camp to make an announcement. "From this day on, I declare Macbeth to be Thane of Cawdor. His bravery and allegiance to me - King Duncan - will be rewarded handsomely!" Cheers erupted from the camp. Macbeth was puzzled; all he could think about was the fruition of the first prophecy. Was he truly destined to become King? 13
