What does student music council do?

  • Acts as a liaison between Music Staff, Music

Parents and Music students

  • Organizes various events, including

coffeehouses, social events and fundraisers.

  • Assists with various logistical tasks in the

preparation of major concerts and events

  • Fundraising

→ Co-ordinates ticket designs and organizes selling teams for coffeehouses and Music Nights. →Works in conjunction with Music Parents to co-ordinate various fundraising events

→ Promotes, Organizes and runs coffeehouses

Role of the Music Parents Support Group

OUR MISSION The mission of the association, in active participation with students, staff, educators and community, is to encourage and support the Music Faculty and students to sustain a premium quality music program in the enriched environment of Canterbury High School. All parents and/or legal guardians of students participating in the music program at Canterbury High School, and all teachers and school staff in the Music Department are considered members of the association.

Finances

  • CHS Music Parents maintain a bank account separate from the

school accounts

  • Financial statements are updated monthly and are reviewed

at each Music Parent Support Group meeting

  • The financial statements are available for the school principal

to review at any time.

  • The financial statements are subject to a final review/audit on

a yearly basis.

Student Accounts

  • Individual student accounts are held within the CHS Music

Parents Account

  • A portion of most fundraisers goes to the individual student

(% varies)

  • Funds may be used for trips, music lessons, grad recital
  • Fill in a Student Account Redemption form
  • Parents can check account by emailing the Treasurer
  • At end of grade 12, all money must be used
  • Unclaimed funds revert to school fundraising account
  • Treasurer’s records are final

FUNDRAISING The music program receives no funding from the

  • Board. Funding for the program occurs through

the $250 voluntary fee each student pays at the start of the year through CACDA and fundraising. FUNDRAISING IS CRITICAL!!!
