High School Terms to Know

  • ACT – American College Testing –alternate

admissions assessment to the SAT.

  • AP Course – Advanced Placement course

earning the student high school and college credit and 2 extra “quality points” for the final grade earned.

  • Blackboard-teacher communication site.
  • Block Schedule – 84-90 minute class period for one
  • semester. Students take 4 courses in fall term & 4 new courses in

the spring term. All classes cover 1 year of material in 1 semester.

  • Elective course – any course not specifically required for

graduation but taken as an option to fulfill the required number of credits for graduation.

  • EOC Tests- End-of-Course Exams created by the state.

Counts for 25% of grade. All students must pass the 3 EOC’s to meet graduation requirements- Common Core Math I, English II, and Biology.

  • FRC –Future-Ready Core graduation requirements. All

students are in “Future Ready” Core unless in Occupational Course of Study (IEP determined).

  • GPA – Grade Point Average calculated by dividing the

quality points earned by number of courses taken.

  • HomeBase – Student and Parent Portal on PowerSchool.

Parents and students can monitor grades, attendance and discipline.

college/university admission assessment. SAT II - Subject tests within the SAT, required for some college admissions.

How To Register for 9th Grade?

  • Mrs. Guinn, 8th grade Counselor is coming in to all 1st period classes

until Thursday, April 7th. A paper Registration Sheet will be sent home for parents to go over with them and Sign, this must be returned to their 1st period Teacher the next day. Rewards will be given to those with the parent signature.  All students will register for 9th grade on Powerschool. Students will use their powerschool username and password. Their username is their student id number or lunch number. If the password needs to be reset, this must be done in Student Services, let your 1st period Teacher know, they will email Mrs. Guinn, our Data Manager, Ms. West will reset it and it will be emailed to your 1st period Teacher to give to the student.
