This is a special denture construction technique developed by my mentor, Dr. Earl Pound for treating patients who have trouble wearing dentures. It requires construction of a set of “treatment dentures” that are used to return the patient’s

  • ral tissues to health and reestablish a comfortable and functional occlusion. The

treatment dentures can then be converted to finished dentures.

Anterior teeth are arranged using the patient’s speech patterns and esthetic needs. Soft liners in the treatment dentures provide comfort and a secure fit, while reconditioning abused tissues. Posterior teeth are arranged for efficient function with minimal interferences.

Final dentures completed with porcelain teeth and custom tinted resin bases can restore one’s appearance and confidence.

Old photographs, yearbooks, study models and x- rays can provide valuable information when trying to reestablish a patient’s appearance.

The Branching Technique properly positions teeth in naturally contoured bases that fit and function well.

Lingualized Occlusion:

A sharp upper lingual cusp functions in a shallow, open fossa of a lower tooth with no contact between buccal cusps. This produces a stable and functional

  • cclusion with no interferences to rock

the dentures. Porcelain posterior teeth resist wear and maintain vertical dimension of occlusion.

TISSUE RECOVERY

The use of a soft liner in the treatment denture can produce dramatic improvement in the condition of the tissues that support the denture. These pictures of the same upper ridge were taken a month apart. The healthy tissue on the right will provide for a more comfortable and retentive denture-wearing experience.

Implants can greatly improve the retention of the denture. They can be placed during the process of constructing the dentures or at any time later without having to remake the denture.

Implants provide retention and stability.

The lower denture can especially benefit from the addition of as few as two implants as pictured on the left. The denture is retained by the blue “snaps” pictured on the right.

The Branching Technique for denture construction can go a long way to returning dignity……. …….and confidence to a patient who has lost their teeth.
