STATE AIG PROGRAM STANDARDS December 2012 (Old Plan) October 2015 (New Plan) JUST UPDATED AND FIRST PRESENTED TO STATE BOE ON SEPTEMBER 3, 2015. FINAL PRESENTATION AND REQUEST FOR APPROVAL IN OCTOBER.
STANDARD ONE: Student Identification
CURRENT
- Pool formed by 85 percentile or better on CoGAT or EOGs in 3rd Grade or 5th Grade
plus teacher or parent recommendations at any grade level
- One pathway in Rubric Form
- EOGs (Academics) count 10 points and Grades (Academics) count 5 points
- CoGAT (Intellectual Aptitude) counts 10 points and Teacher Recommendation counts

- Must have 24 of 30 in an area to qualify
STANDARD ONE: Student Identification
PROPOSED DRAFT
- Same process to enter pool + BOG at beginning of 3rd
- Multiple Pathways to be identified
- One: 95th percentile or above composite on Aptitude Test (CoGAT)
- Two: 90th percentile or above on BOTH Aptitude Test and Achievement Test
(EOG, BOG) in subject area
- Three: Old Rubric with Gifted Evaluation Form 3 in place of Teacher
Recommendation
STANDARD TWO: Differentiated Curriculum and Instruction
CURRENT
- K-3 : Students not identified, but teachers could request support to meet needs
from AIG teachers.
- 4-5 : AIG teachers supported classroom teachers including pull outs and whole
group enrichments. Classroom teachers were to provide differentiation.
- 6-8: Plan says the advanced math and/or separate advanced ELA classes will be
provided for identified students
- 9-12: Students placed in honors and or AP courses
STANDARD TWO: Differentiated Curriculum and Instruction
PROPOSED DRAFT
- K-3 : Students not identified, but teachers can request support to meet needs
from AIG Director or Instructional Facilitator with these teachers getting Local AIG Endorsement on students’ characteristics and meeting their needs.
- 4-5 : Students are identified and clustered during ELA and Math classes in rooms
- f teachers with Local AIG Endorsement completed or AIG certified teachers.
Daily classroom differentiation including compacting and instruction are used. Students are offered opportunities including online classes during remediation/enrichment times

- 6-8: Identified students are placed in separate classrooms for math and ELA
instruction with teachers who are AIG certified or have the Local AIG
- Endorsement. Curriculum is compacted for math with opportunity to complete
6th and half of 7th grade curriculum in 6th grade and other half of 7th and 8th grade curriculum in 7th grade. Math I is offered to identified students in 8th grade.
STANDARD TWO: Differentiated Curriculum and Instruction

- 9-12: Identified students will work with counselors, teachers, and director at
transition/college planning meetings to plan their four years to best suit the student’s individual needs with options including NCVPS online courses, college courses, and NCSSM opportunities. NCSSM opportunities for Junior and Senior years will include online dual enrollment that will allow students to stay at ACHS and still take classes through NCSSM. (Requires students to meet NCSSM admittance requirements) *Other opportunities will be sought and shared with all eligible students
STANDARD THREE: Personnel and Professional Development
CURRENT
Three lead teachers were covering all 7 elementary schools. Plan says AIG students will be placed in classrooms where teachers are AIG certified or have the Local AIG Endorsement.
PROPOSED DRAFT
Teachers at each elementary will complete Local AIG Endorsement starting with 4th and 5th grade teachers. This should remain and Local AIG Endorsement classes for these teachers should continue. (Might consider an extra PD class specifically for Math and/or Reading)
STANDARD FOUR: Comprehensive Programming within a Total School Community
CURRENT
Old DEP and IDEP 3-5: AIG teacher designed classes No classes offered district wide for elementary students
PROPOSED DRAFT
Update DEP and IDEP to meet the needs of
- ur students in a digital society (include IDEP
for rising 9th graders to use to make sure they are best prepared for higher education) Offer online district classes through CANVAS to identified elementary students during enrichment or free time. Offer summer opportunities
STANDARD FIVE: Partnerships
CURRENT

Plan written and approved by local BOE and state AIG department. Use self-assessment tool to evaluate fidelity. Maintain and analyze student data including monitoring under representation. Develop AIG Advisory Board
PROPOSED DRAFT
Same Continue to use self-assessment tool. Use Power School to maintain and analyze data. Continue with Advisory Board including 3 meetings this year and one more Parent Meeting when Plan is completed.
