Stonebridge Community Association Executives

Lisa Hopkyns - Events and Activities Married to Bruce Hatt, with 2 children William (10) and Phoebe (6), Lisa has been a resident of Stonebridge since 2003. She is responsible for organizing all Stonebridge Community Events starting with the very first Annual Kids Christmas Party which was held at the Loblaws with only 20 kids! Lisa grew up in South East Asia, returned to Canada for University in the early 80's after which she moved to Europe to continue her education and work in the International Development field. She returned to Asia to work in the early 90s, and finally ended up back in Canada to work for a world class engineering firm developing seismic solutions and networks worldwide. Six years ago, family circumstances forced Lisa to change careers, and she started Real Estate in 2005. The rest is history! Communications – Wendy Bolf Married to Derek Bolf, with 2 children Cameron (5) and Ayla (3), Wendy has been a resident of Stonebridge sine 2006. Wendy is responsile for helping reate the Assoiation’s esite and as the also initially the Director of Sponsorships. She currently maintains the information on the site, is the point of contact for the Assoiation’s e-mail, manages the membership portfolio and creates the monthly newsletters. Wendy started volunteering in the community as co-chair of the Kilbirnie Park Association and also helps with the Stonebridge Events and Activities sub-committee. Not only does Wendy work full time for the government, she also helps run the Ottawa Information Guide and works as an Arbonne Independent Consultant.

  • events. Niraj is a real estate agent and a lifelong resident of Ottawa. He resides in Stonebridge with

his wife and 2 daughters.

Stonebridge Community Association Executives

Chris Clarke – Development Chris and his wife have been Stonebridge residents since 2006 and have three young children. He has been a Director-at-large with the Stonebridge Community Association since the fall of 2010 and recently took over the Development and transportation portfolio. Chris is interested in preserving the safety and family-friendly nature of our community. Chris is a Chartered Accountant and is a finance executive with a local clean technology company. Secretary/Treasurer - Tracy Budrow Married to Darren Budrow, with 2 children James (6) and Ryan (4), Tracy has been a resident of Stonebridge since 2006. She is responsible for maintaining the financial records, banking functions, and recording the meeting minutes. Tracy was born in Quebec but grew up in Iroquois, Ontario, about an hour's drive south of Ottawa. She lived in Toronto and Calgary before returning to her roots in

  • Ottawa. She obtained her Certified General Accountant (CGA) designation in 2001, and worked in the

accounting profession until her first child was born in 2005. When a promotion for her husband brought them to Ottawa while still on maternity leave with her first baby, and already expecting their second child, she made the decision to stay home and devote her time to raising her two boys.

Parks and Recreation - Karin Taylor Karin is responsible for all three of Stonebridge's beautiful parks (WC Levesque and Trails, Golflinks And Kilbirnie) as well as coordinating the recreation programs such as Kids Soccer and the outdoor rink. Karin started volunteering in the community as co-chair of the Kilbirnie Park Association. Karin is a mom who lives in Stonebridge and also works full time for as an engineer for the government. Safety and Security – Spencer Warren In his role as Director of Safety and Security for the Stonebridge Community Association, Spencer Warren has our community's well-being top of mind. Living in Stonebridge since 2009 with his wife Lisa and 5 year-

  • ld daughter Emily, Spencer is pleased to be an part of developing this vibrant community's safety and

security goals. With a background in high-end security system design and integration, this path has taken him around the globe and earned him the opportunity to work with the United States Secret Service and Corrections Canada among others. More recently, Spencer has become very active in working with preventative injury charities to increase the safety of our city's children. In doing so he has forged many connections, an asset he looks forward to offering the Stonebridge Community Association. Spencer will be the point of contact for any safety or security concerns you might have.

Joshua Grundy – Director at Large - Development and Transportation Sub-Committee Married to Jennifer Grundy, with 1 child Everett ( 9 Months), Joshua has been a resident of Stonebridge since 2010. Joshua was born in Kingston, Ontario and grew up in the small southwestern Ontario towns

  • f Walkerton and Hanover. He went to University in Oshawa and obtained a Honours Bachelors of

Commerce Degree. After graduating he moved to Ottawa to join his future wife. Since moving to Ottawa he has worked for a locally based construction firm as an Estimator and currently a Project Coordinator.

Currently, ALL Stonebridge children attend the following schools:

  • JK – 5 Barrhaven Public School (BPS)
  • 6 – 8 Cedarview Middle School
  • 9 – 12 John McCrae High School

SCA Events and Activities Over 50’s Club

BOOK CLUB Presently there are 1 Day and 2 Evening groups that meet

  • nce a month for a lively discussion about their latest read.

BRIDGE GROUP An active group. All levels of experience are welcome. (Non Competitive) DINNER GROUP Similar to a Pot Luck Dinner. There are 4 couples per group who get together once a month in each other’s homes. Very informal and low key! These groupings are changed every 4

  • months. In addition there is our annual Summer BBQ and

Christmas Party for the entire Dinner Group to enjoy. The Stonebridge Over 50 Group was created a few years ago by Christine Hollink as a way for residents to get to know one another better while sharing in various, social activities.

SCA Events and Activities Over 50’s Club

GOLF Social games. Ladies meet on Monday mornings to play 9 or 18 holes. A men’s group get together for a round on Thursday afternoons. ARTISTS New Group as of 2010! Every level, every style, sharing techniques and art contacts. Other interests, such as Gardening, Walking, Photography, etc. may be added at any time depending on the level of interest. The primary point of contact is our Group Coordinator, Christine Hollink and she can be reached at 613-692-6766 or by e-mail gjhollink@rogers.com. Parks & Recreation 2010 Achievements

Parks:

  • WC Levesque Park Gazebo was repainted by City Building Staffing
  • Kilbirnie Park now has a properly designed drainage system to the splash pad.
  • Provincial and Federal funding was granted to the Kilbirnie Park Gazebo project which was

constructed early summer.

  • Field Drainage works to fix the flooding and stagnant water issues at Kilbirnie Park was not funded but

the city has started design. No date provided yet for construction.

  • Additional Plantings at Kilbirnie Park also unfortunately were not approved and other grant
  • pportunities will have to be pursued.

Recreation:

  • Stonebridge Soccer Program (6 week "play for fun" program) over 140 children registered
  • Skating Rink 2nd season was fabulous – looking for volunteers for this year
  • Barrhaven South Recreation Complex (corner of Cambrian and Greenbank) preliminary design should

be ready for comment in January 2012

Parks & Recreation 2011-12 Priorities

  • Active participation on Barrhaven South Recreation Complex Public Advisory Committee
  • Anticipate purchasing picnic benches and perhaps additional seating benches for Spring 2012
  • Kilbirnie Park - continue pushing for resolution of the outstanding issues, including field drainage and

plantings.

  • WC Levesque - continue to pursue resolution of issues that occur during rental of fields.
  • Golflinks – looking for input and volunteers to improve the park
  • Continue with the Soccer Program and Rink Program - SCA has already applied to the city to be the

The website statistics have been steadily climbing over the last year. Membership has reached nearly 420 members and counting. There is still along way to go, but residents are gradually becoming more aware

the community The babysitter registry, which is available to registered members, now counts 9 babysitters. We are always looking for responsible sitters to add to the registry, as there is a real need in Stonebridge! Volunteers needed: We are looking for assistance with the memberships portfolio, which is mostly an administrative role.

an idea of what is happening in Stonebridge, Half Moon Bay and

  • Manotick. Remember, you should keep informed and ALWAYS report

an incident to the police so that they can form a profile of the area.

Restrictive Covenants Reinforcement

We are requesting that you re-read your Purchase and Sales Agreement and remember the intent of the covenants that we have all signed and agreed to. While the Association is not an enforcement body and cannot respond individually to the concerns of residents who find breaches of the covenants to be unacceptable, we are making every attempt to remind residents of their

  • bligations. Issues of contention include:
  • Satellite dishes
  • Boats and RV parking
  • Structures (play structures, sheds, green houses etc.)
  • Above ground pools
  • Signage

We all agreed to these covenants when we bought and they are a base for property values, as a whole community. We ask everyone to seriously look at the commitment to the community as per the agreement signed, and to take the necessary steps to correct any covenant breaches. Failure to do so will result in action being taken by the Association

Safety and Security Priorities

Reinforcing City of Ottawa pool and hot tub bylaw:

1) Every pool shall have an adequate enclosure erected around it in accordance with the provisions

  • f subsection (2) to subsection (6) inclusive.

2) Every enclosure for a pool shall be: (a) at least 1.5 metres (5 feet) in height, and (b) of a close- boarded, chain link or other approved design, to reasonably deter children from climbing it to gain access to the fenced-in area. (3) Openings through or under any part of the enclosure shall be of a size so as to prevent the passage of a spherical object having a diameter of 100 mm (4"). (4) Gates in the enclosure shall: (a) provide protection to the enclosure, (b) be equipped with a self-closing and latching device located at the top and inside of the gate, (By-law No. 2009- 333) (c) be lockable, (By-law No. 2009-333) (d) despite paragraph c), every gate in an enclosure for a pool that adjoins a space that is accessible to the public, including but not limited to a public park, a golf course, or a highway, shall be lockable and locked at all times except when the gate is being used for access or egress by the property owner or by any one who has the property owner’s consent to enter or leave the property. (By-law No. 2009-333) (5) Barbed wire or fencing energized by electrical current, sharp projections or any other dangerous characteristics shall not be used as an enclosure for the pool. (6) Where a wall of a building is used as part of an enclosure, all doors located in the wall of the building shall be equipped with self-closing, self-latching and locking devices, or in the case of a door, located a minimum of 1.35 metres (4' 6") above the door threshold.

Safety and Security Priorities

Reminder of the City of Ottawa helmet bylaw:

Bicycle helmets must be worn by all cyclists who are under the age of 18. Look for the CSA or CPSC certification in the helmet before you buy or wear it. To provide maximum protection, the helmet should fit level and square on the head, and the front should cover the forehead. It should sit snugly on and not slip when the head is moved around, even before the chin strap is

  • fastened. The straps should be adjusted to meet just below the ear, and fastened comfortably. See the

images below for proper fitting. For more information, contact Ottawa Public Health Information at 613- 580-6744.

  • Reduction of speed limit on Blackleaf from 50km to 40km

mandatory.

Greenbank Road Closure and Extension

  • Existing Greenbank Road crossing the Jock River, and connecting with Cambrian, will close

in 2012.

  • The New Greenbank Rd. will be widened to 4 lanes and redirected deeper in to the Half

Moon Bay community to connect with Cambrian Road South.

  • On the east side of the Jock River, Greenbank will pick up from the edge of the Mattamy

and Half Moon Bay communities and continue over to Cambrian in its current form (see next slide).

  • The segment of Jockvale Road from the Longfields extension to Greenbank (behind

Loblaws) will close when the Greenbank extension is complete.

  • Paul Metivier Drive will eventually be extended across the Longfields Drive extension and

will continue over to Greenbank to replace the Jockvale road segment that will close. The Jockvale segment will not close until the Paul Metivier extension is complete.

Future Jockvale Bridge(s) and Jockvale Widening

  • The City has revised the original scope of work for Jockvale Road to include the widening of

Jockvale from the Longfields extension to the Cambrian Road intersection.

  • The design is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year and construction is

scheduled to begin next year.

  • Construction of the southbound bridge is scheduled to begin early in 2012. When work is

completed on the southbound bridge, traffic will be diverted to it and construction will begin

  • n the northbound bridge.
  • The bridges will be built over two construction seasons and will be completed in 2013.

Other Projects to be Completed in the Future

  • Construction of the Strandherd-Armstrong bridge is still on track to be completed in 2012.
  • Will include eastbound and westbound automobile, cycling and bus lanes.
  • Will connect Earl Armstrong Drive (Riverside South) to Strandherd Drive (Barrhaven).
  • See the graphic of the bridge on the following slide.
  • A Highway 416 interchange is still planned for installation near the Cambrian Road and

Cedarview Drive intersection (see diagram on an earlier slide).

  • The left turning lane from Woodroffe Avenue South on to Prince of Wales Drive (northbound)

was closed recently.

  • The SCA is awaiting a response from the City Project Manager regarding plans and timing for

the eventual closure of the exit from Woodroffe Avenue on to Prince of Wales Drive (south) and the right hand turn from Prince of Wales Drive (south) on to Woodroffe Avenue (north).

Other Projects to be Completed in the Future

  • Monarch and Uniform Urban developments are proposing to construct a residential

subdivision in the are of the apple orchard off Jockvale near Prince of Wales Drive (see attached slide).

  • The plan is for 194 single detached homes, 73 townhomes, a stormwater pond and a park.
  • The City is holding a public consultation meeting on Tuesday, October 18th from 6PM to 8PM at
  • St. Joseph’s high school, in the library on the 2nd Floor.
  • Phoenix is developing an 8 unit block of townhomes on the west side of Jockvale backing on

to Blackleaf and Rossburn.

  • 54 total units (1,600 to 1,700 sq. ft. per unit, basements included), including 18 end units.
  • 2 storey townhomes (originally 3 storey but builder changed plans after SCA feedback).
  • Fully landscaped on a private street off Jockvale.
  • SCA is commenting on some of the elements of the revised plan, including suggestion for

turning lanes off Jockvale.

Transportation

  • OC Transpo implemented significant route changes on September 4, 2011.
  • Route 175 continues to service Stonebridge East (see next slide).
  • Prior to September 4, 2011, Route 175 carried riders as far as Fallowfield Station.
  • As of September 4, 2011, Route 175 carries riders only as far as Barrhaven Centre, where

they will have to connect to Route 173, which services the west side of Barrhaven before continuing to Fallowfield Station.

  • Route 177 continues to service Stonebridge West and Half Moon Bay (see next slide).
  • There were no changes to this route as a result of the September 4, 2011 changes.
