• Grand Est is the new french region build from

the former Champagne Ardenne, Lorraine and Alsace regions

• going from Paris to the Rhine
• approx 5.5 Million inhabitants
• North East of France, in the heart of Europe
• main cities : Reims,Troyes, Metz, Nancy,

Strasbourg, Mulhouse

• the only French region having a border with

4 foreign countries : Belgium (Wallonia), Luxemburg, Germany (Saarland,Rheinland Pfalz, Baden Wurtenberg) and Switzerland

• one of the most attractive french region for

foreign investment

• just in between Toulouse and Hamburg…….

• a very strong industrial background and history, where the traditional heavy

industries (textile, mining – coal and iron, metallurgy, steel production…..) are declining

• industry still has strong positions in metallurgy, metal transformation,

automotive, chemical industry, plasturgy, food industry, ……

• strong growth in recent years for logistics and services, and Aerospace…
• Grand Est roughly contributes to 7% of the French Gross Domestic Product
• Grand Est is one of the first french region for foreign investment, with a

strong presence of european and international companies

• excellent network of ground and air transportation
• a leading french region for university and academic research
• foreign investors are warmly welcome !!

• AERIADES Aerospace cluster was created in 2003, as a public company
• Strong original support from the Lorraine Regional Council (Conseil

Régional de Lorraine) and the French Government, in the frame of 3 years partnership programs (running program for year 2014 to 2016)

• Now supported by GRAND EST Regional Council
• bjectives > develop and strengthen the Aerospace network first in

Lorraine, now in GRAND EST

• June 2005 : entering GIFAS (group of the French Aerospace Industry)
• 2013 : entering EACP (European Aerospace Cluster Partnership)
• AERIADES key figures
• total 62 members, June 2017 : industrial members, technical centers,

higher education, vocational education, research representing for the industrial part (values end of 2016) Close to 2900 employees

• with a total turnover of approx 380 M€ (50% in aeronautics &

space)

• and backed with a strong experience in Aerospace business

Objectives > develop and strengthen the Aerospace industry and economy in GRAND EST Main activities

• Creating, maintaining, developping the network : Information,

communication, coordination

• Marketing and commercial support to the members (point of contact during

marketing phase & RFI, involved in RFP phase..)

• Participation to major aerospace events (collective booth at Le Bourget

Airshow, ILA Berlin, BtoB events, in France and Europe…)

• Help and support to the members through collective actions (EN9100

certification, NADCAP accreditations, supply chain improvement…)

• Networking of skills and know how
• Strategic watch : market survey, technology, norms & regulations,

customers, competitors……..

• Representing GRAND EST Aerospace network in national & international
• rganizations (GIFAS, EACP….)
• link with local research and innovation actors

Focus on R&D activities Focus on R&D activities

• GRAND EST has a long and strong university and research background
• University is representing over 150 000 students, 150 laboratories, and
• ver 10 000 teaching and research people
• 20 engineer schools, mainly mechanical engineering
• GRAND EST is hosting 6 of the 70 french « Poles de Compétitivité » :

clusters bringing together industry, private and public research, and academics, in order to identify, sustain and help financing R&D projects

• IRT – Institut de Recherche Technologique : technological development

platform, mixing industry and private and public research, with dedicated equipments and means

• Several Technology Transfer Centers (for instance French Welding Institute

: training – expertise – development in new welding technologies)

• A number of laboratories and companies involved in aerospace R&D,

participating to CLEANSKY and CORAC projects (CORAC equivalent to german LuFo)

• focus (among others) : materials (metallic and composites), new

manufacturing processes, new technologies (additive manufacturing…)
