The School Health Advisory Board (SHAB) assists the School Board and APS Executive Leadership Team (ELT) with the development of health policies in Arlington Public Schools and the evaluation of the status of school health, health education, and the school environment and health services as described in Virginia Code.

Food Allergy Guidelines

• Translate the guidelines into Spanish
• Print copies and distribute to schools and programs
• Create a dedicated page on the APS website

Hand-Washing Policy

• Update the APS handbook
• Send messages to staff and parents 3 times per year
• Instruction on hand-washing and how to integrate it

throughout the busy school day

• Implement designs in school construction and

remodeling efforts

Air Quality - Bus and Automobile Idling

• Declare APS a No-Idle District
