Academic Calendar 101: "Hard” BOG and Faculty Senate Constraints
- Florida Board of Governors (BOG) requires minimum of 220 days of
classroom instruction for the academic year
– Translates to a minimum of 81 days each in Fall and Spring and 29 days each in Summer A and Summer B – UF includes ½ days on Fall and Spring Saturdays and full days of final exams
- BOG requires starting semesters within the following windows:
– Fall - first three weekdays after August 22 – Spring - first three weekdays after January 4 – Summer - first three weekdays after May 5
- Faculty Senate requests:
– Homecoming date in October unless no games are scheduled in October – Spring break between weeks 8-10

- Favor beginning classes on Monday
- Allow UF Housing time to prepare residence halls for
fall semester
- Maintain 5 future years of approved calendars (we will
approve the 2022-2023 calendar this year)
- Avoid spring semester starting on first working day
after the holiday break
– Avoids conflicts with Preview and regular registration
