WHY CREATE HOUSE OF BLESSINGS (HOB)?

In Pakistan, widows often lose inheritance rights to their husband's assets, leaving them penniless when a husband dies. This often means that while she tries to work to support her family, she has to leave her children unfed, uneducated, and inadequately cared for. One mother was incapable of earning more than $59 per month doing two jobs. The HOB founders noticed the lack of shelter and support in Pakistan for this vulnerable group, widows and children, and founded House of Blessings in 2019 to begin filling that void. The name "House of Blessings" comes from the Islamic concept that the greatest blessings are with the orphan. The intent is for such houses to be dedicated to the most vulnerable of our greatest resource, our children- and our widows.

WHY FUND ORPHANS?

• Children are our future. In today‟s global world,

building human capital with a shrinking workforce, competent and educated Human Resources are an urgent need, especially in Pakistan. The more children a society can get off the streets, the better

• God tells us in the Quran about the many blessings of

helping orphans. For example in Surah Insaan, verse 8: „And they [the righteous] give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive…’

WHAT IS UNIQUE ABOUT HOB?

HOB keeps children with their mothers, and provides:

• A nurturing environment
• Emotional and mental health counseling
• Specialized care and education for each child
• Career counseling & skills training for mothers

Only the most needy families who have no other source of income are screened as viable candidates to live here. There is an immense need and a long waiting list

Zafreen is an experienced professional, bringing her planning, execution, supervision and management skills to HOB. She has worked previously in development organizations of distinguished international reputation. She has a Masters in Psychology, a Diploma in Clinical Psychology, and Masters in Public Health. She has prepared and implemented our Child Protection Policy and SOP‟s. Her role includes supervision of the staff, counseling orphans and the mothers and supervises overall care.

M s M s K a r i s h m a W a l i Assistant Project Manager HOB

Karishma has a BS Sociology & Bachelors in Education, Leadership and Management. Her primary responsibility is to teach the children and help them develop skills and improve their routine and counsel them from time to time. She assists the project manager in every task related to overall management of the facility, and coordinates with the school, teaching children socializing, managing their outdoors activities and trips, coordinating with their relatives and engaging volunteers visiting HOB to hold different activities for the children.
