Alumni Engagement – A Broad Overview of Ways to Get Involved

Come to campus

Listen to students deliver presentations in their classes and offer constructive feedback on their content or presenting skills Judge a Gabelli School competition, such as the Pitch Competition, Consulting Cup or the Business Ethics Case Competition Have coffee with a faculty member Attend an industry-relevant academic or practitioner conference being held here at Fordham Bring a high-school-age child, sibling, cousin, or other relative to campus to learn about Fordham and the Gabelli School Attend reunion, athletic events, plays, lectures

Help Career Development Center with internships and job searches

Become part of a database of alumni whom current students can contact with brief, targeted career-search questions Attend an industry-specific networking night coordinated by one of our MBA and MS student organizations List an internship or job opportunity at your organization that would welcome applications from Fordham students Share your knowledge and perspective at an undergraduate or graduate student club meeting Phone into a class for a 30-minute “Analyst Call” on a current industry issue

Share your story and expertise

Meet with high-potential undergraduate or graduate applicants to talk about your Fordham experience (in-person or via Skype!) Welcome current students to your company for a “site visit” to show them around and talk about your firm and your work Host one student at your office in a “Take a Fordham Student to Work Day” setting

Support our admissions objectives

Participate in a Boardroom Admissions Yield event to help us recruit the best and the brightest Attend an admitted-student “send-off” for new Gabelli School students who are coming from other areas of the country Be one of our “Alumni Admissions Ambassadors” in your city, anywhere around the United States or the world

Take action

Help to improve participation among other alumni by participating in Giving Day as a “social media” ambassador Serve on a board of advisors

Alumni Engagement – Current Examples

Affinity Group Examples

Alumni Engagement

Friendraising: Mario Batali  Non technical topic with a popular, celebrity appeal – the food and wine businesses  170 attendees representing all constituencies in the Gabelli School of Business – faculty, students, alumni from all divisions of our school 

  • Mr. Batali met privately with students and

major donors  97% yield on registration and $4K in revenue Fundraising : Women’s Philanthropy Summit  First all female philanthropy event in Fordham’s 175 year history  Women have been overlooked as major donors at Fordham – significant upside  100-200 women targeted to attend from all units; 50-75 from Gabelli; Dean Rapaccioli and Advisory Board member Laura Roche are on the Steering Committee.  Context and relevant stats for Fordham: 55% of all alumni are alumnae 47% of all alumni donors (lifetime) 31% of all alumni President's Club donors 29% of alumni who give $10K or more 25% of alumni gave $25K or more in lifetime 35% of alumnae are currently identified as major gift prospects capable of 5 or 6 figure gift Less than half of this constituency has ever been visited by a Major Gift Officer – and they give anyway! High impact event topics and targeting underserved groups will allow us to increase engagement of our alumni

  • riginal goal of 175

 At least 209 gifts to the business school, many NEW donors Current appeal – RISE young alumni have raised $25,000+ for solar panels as RH, attracting 80+ new donors  State of the art crowdfunding platform  Allows us to engage new and old donors in targeted fundraising appeals – and reduce expenses by avoiding mail and gift officer travel to reach these donors  This technology is especially attractive to young prospects and donors – helps us build a pipeline for the future We also intend to leverage state-of-the-art technology to help drive alumni participation and donor levels
