TARGETING MEDIA THROUGH NGO- MEDIA PARTERSHIPS SHARE Media Visit to the UK (27-28 Feb 2013) • In partnership with the ECRE Media Group – outreach to delegates • UK hosting partners – Sheffield City Council, British Refugee Council, Sheffield Gatea Refugee Commmunities Forum • Press Officers & journalists from 6 EU countries • Objectives: Short-medium term: - raising media awareness about refugee resettlement - generate informed media reports about the impact and importance of resettlement - build media and NGO awareness of how resettlement functions at local levels Longer term: - Build sustainable NGO-media relationships with journalists in the context of resettlement - Promote European exchange on resettlement

MEDIA VISIT PROGRAMME… 2-day programme hosted by British Refugee Council & the city of Sheffield • Introduction to resettlement: global needs & local programmes (+ UNHCR) • Meeting with the Gateway Communities Forum (former resrttled refugees) • Guided city tours with resettled refugees • Group discussion with the Sheffield Bhutanese Women’s Group • Individual interviews – resettled refugees & city officials (Manchester & Sheffield) • Meeting with volunteers in the resettlement programme (refugees & local people) • Screening of ‘Moving to Mars’ • Burmese Community Reporters Project – presentation by Sheffield Hallam University & refugee community journalists • Expert panel discussion - 'Reporting refugee resettlement
