Persecution of Families

— From 2014 to 2018, persecution of married women

unable to leave an abusive relationship was recognized as a ground for asylum. In 2018, the Attorney General reversed this decision.

— In 2019, the Attorney General limited the extent to

which persecution of families could be a ground for asylum.

CHANGES AT EOIR

— The Executive Office of Immigration Review (EOIR),

is responsible for overseeing the immigration court system.

¡ EOIR created The Office of Policy and charged it with

  • verseeing new rules and policies based on political priorities.

¡ The Office of Legal Access Programs (OLAP) will now be under

the control of The Office of Policy.

¡ OLAP oversees several court mandated programs, like the

Legal Orientation Program for Custodians (LOPC) and also

  • versees the Recognition and Accreditation Program which

allows immigrants to access qualified legal advocates.

¡ Catholic Charities DRVC is a Recognized Organization with

Accredited Representatives that also runs an LOPC program.
