Canada’s National Female Midget Championship

• The Esso Cup is hosted annually bringing together the top

female midget teams in Canada

• 5 Regional teams along with a host team compete for the

coveted Esso Cup and the right to call themselves 2019 Esso Cup National Champions

• The 2019 Esso Cup will take place in Sudbury, ON at the Gerry

McCrory Countryside Arena from April 21-27

• Regions represented:

Atlantic (NFLD, NS, PEI, NB) Quebec Ontario West (MB, SK) Pacific (AB, BC) Host (Local team)

Canada’s National Female Midget Championship

• Hockey Canada awarded the hosting of the 2019 Esso Cup to

the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association (OWHA) in the City of Greater Sudbury

• The 2019 Esso Cup will bring hundreds of officials and delegates

along with several hundred more participants, coaches, family along with several hundred more participants, coaches, family members and female hockey fans to the City of Greater Sudbury in April 2019

• The economic impact to the City of Greater Sudbury will be in

excess of $1M

• Of equal importance the 2019 Esso Cup will not only

provide an opportunity for young girls from Sudbury to witness this high caliber of play but young girls from other northern communities will benefit as well northern communities will benefit as well

• Never has there been an Esso Cup in such close proximity

to so many small Northern Ontario and First Nations communities

• 2018 and 2019 will represent the first time a community has

been given the opportunity to host two Hockey Canada national midget championships in back to back years

• The TELUS Cup boys National Championship will be hosted in

Sudbury April 22-28, 2018 followed by the Esso Cup in 2019 Sudbury April 22-28, 2018 followed by the Esso Cup in 2019

• Hockey Canada has put their trust in our community, let’s show

them how great our community is when it comes to supporting these events!

• Esso Cup Bronze Medalists in Stoney Creek, ON
• 2015 Sudbury Lady Wolves
• Esso Cup Gold Medalists in Red Deer, AB
• Ontario Success

• Ontario and the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association has been well

represented over the years at the Esso Cup

• This is the second time the OWHA will host the Esso Cup
• OWHA has won a medal every year since the inception of the event in 2009
• 9 medals have been won in total. 3 Gold, 3 Silver, 3 Bronze
• 5 of these medals (2 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze) have been won by teams from

Northern Ontario

• In order to make this event a financial success the Host Committee

must rely on the support of the always loyal Corporate Sudbury

• The goal of the 2019 Esso Cup is to provide the greatest experience

possible to all of the participants that will attend possible to all of the participants that will attend

• We will showcase the outstanding City of Greater Sudbury
• This event will leave a powerful legacy for female hockey and our

community
