Girls on the Run of • Greater Sacramento provides 42% of our girls with financial assistance each year. We are committed to being accessible to any girl who wants to participate and are dedicated to ensuring that program cost is never a barrier to participation. Financial assistance is available to girls in need due to the generous support of local and national funders. • We use free/reduced lunch to determine the discounted rate for each girl. Families are also able to set up payment plans if needed. To receive financial assistance from Girls on the Run, please indicate your need during registration (which • opens online on January 22nd) and follow the directions provided during the registration process. **NOTE: Proof of income is required of all scholarship recipients.

  7. Running Buddies Each Girls on the Run participant will need an adult “Running Buddy” who will take part in the race alongside them both for safety and to provide encouragement and support. We encourage you to help them brainstorm positive role models in their lives who might be willing to act as a running buddy on race day. This may be a family member, a close family friend, a favorite teacher or another responsible adult. It is always more special when the running buddy is a friend or family member , however we do have a team of volunteers for those girls who don’t have a family member or friend who is able to run. • What we need from running buddies: o Running buddies must be registered runners in the race; the registration fee for running buddies is $45. They need to register themselves through the race web site (including paying the race registration cost). We ask that they register in advance so that we can recruit an accurate number of volunteer running buddies. o Running buddies must be over the age of 18, but can be any family member or family- designated buddy (yes, fathers, uncles, grandfathers are permitted)

  8. Practice 5K Run The practice 5K run will be incorporated into Lesson 15 of the • curriculum. With GOTR practices kicking off on February 12 th , this means that the practice 5K will be held at our April 16 th practice. This is the one GOTR practice at which the girls’ friends and • families are invited to attend and participate, however this is by no means required, the coaching staff will be facilitating this activity, just as they would any other lesson in the program. There is a chance that this particular practice could run a little longer than the usual 1.5 hours, the coaches will be sure to give ample notice to parents if this should be the case.
