National Association of County& City Health Officials

The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), with funding and support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), intend to conduct an assessment of Local Health Departments (LHDs) to identify and explore the many facets of their efforts to address immunization and vaccine preventable diseases. Every three years, NACCHO produces the National Profile of Local Health Departments which provides a comprehensive description of LHD infrastructure and practice. While this profile does include immunization services, it does so only at a very high level. The 2017 NACCHO Annual Immunization Survey will provide insight into the status of immunization programs at the LHD level, characterize their activities to control vaccine preventable diseases and provide immunization services within their jurisdictions, as well as identify possible challenges and/or best practices experienced by LHD immunization programs. Based on the input of the NACCHO Immunization Workgroup, the survey will specifically inquire about LHD immunization funding, policies, health education and community outreach, Vaccines for Children and 317 immunization services, VPD case investigation and control efforts, and the use of immunization information systems. Overall, the assessment will collect information to support and promote the role of immunization programs and services within the LHD.
