National Park Service Grant Application • NPS is turning 100 • Three national parks and one national reserve covering South Florida • Everglades – 3 rd largest NP of the lower 48 states (1.5 million acres) – World Heritage Site • Big Cypress – Almost an airport – Preserve: OK to hunt, drill, off-road • Biscayne – 25 mile long coral reef ecosystem, 175k acres – 2 million visitors per year • Dry Tortuga – Accessible by boat or seaplane only – 100 sq miles of water, 50 acres of land 11
