  5. 5 EPA EMISSION REQUIREMENTS The Challenge Facing Heavy-Duty OEMs Further Reduction Of Oxides Of Nitrogen (NOx) The Environmental Protection Agency, OEMs, and many trucking fleets committed themselves to a cleaner environment by reducing NOx emissions. To reduce NOx emissions, most new trucks are equipped with a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system. The SCR technology requires the use of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) EPA Standards Not Limited To On-Road 2010 On-Road Diesel Engines 2014 Off-Road Equipment 2015 Locomotives 2016 & 2017 Marine

  8. 8 WHAT IS DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID(DEF)? Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is the mixture of high purity synthetic automotive grade urea and deionized water that is used in Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems on diesel engines. o 32.5% High Purity Synthetic Automotive Grade Urea o 67.5% Deionized Water o Meets ISO-22241 Quality Standard What is Urea? Urea Is A Nitrogen Compound With Many Commercial Uses o Fertilizer o Animal Feed Supplement o Production Of Adhesives And Resins SCR Systems Use A High Quality Urea o Currently Used In SCR Systems In The Stationary Power Generation DEF IS NOT A DIESEL ADDITIVE

  9. HOW DOES DEF WORK? 2010 EPA Emission Standard 32.5% Automotive grade urea ; 67.5% DI Water

  10. 10 DEF CHARACTERISTICS o Non-Hazardous o Weighs 9.1 lbs per gallon • Heavier than o Non-Toxic Petroleum Products o Non-Flammable • Bulk Load = 5,000 gallons o Non-Explosive • Rail Car = 20,000 o Classified Minimum Risk gallons For Transportation o Will freeze below 12° F – not affected by freeze / thaw o Crystallization o “Creeping” or “Leaching”

  11. HANDLING & STORAGE o The shelf life of DEF is directly related to the temperature at which it is stored. Storage temperature between 12º and 86º F are recommended to maintain optimal shelf life of up to two years. o If BlueDEF freezes, its efficacy will not be effected upon thawing. To maintain the purity of DEF and not harm the SCR catalyst system care must be taken regarding the material of construction o For all items that come in contact with the DEF solution. Included from the ISO-22241-1 standards are the recommended and not recommended materials for contact with DEF. The type of storage and dispensing equipment a customer will need will depend on how many vehicles are in their fleet. Use the simple chart below to Determine the ideal system for each customer.

  14. DELIVERY ISO standard 22241 was also created to provide direction for the handling, transportation and storage of diesel exhaust fluid. PEAK Commercial & Industrial’s comprehensive and controlled distribution network ensures that the BlueDEF you order is delivered securely, on time, wherever you need it. DEDICATED EQUIPMENT REQUIRED o Quality is Assured -Batch Testing with Every Blend o Reduction in the Quality of DEF = Damaged SCR System o SCR System Replacement = $8,000 to $12,000 o Utilizing Proper Equipment Throughout Distribution will • Protect DEF Integrity • Avoid Equipment Failure
